I stayed at Aaron's cottage for two nights and it was a great experience. The cottage was cozy, equipped with all the amenities you could need. It had AC, fans, hot water, a comfortable bed, a kitchenette and full bathroom. The place is easy to find and there is a nice beach within walking distance. The place is ideal for staying in the Hilo area or for day trips to Volcanoes National Park, or drive to the top of Mauna Kea (4WD required). Several great local restaurants as well as supermarkets around the area.

The place is old and needs some attention. Walls are thin you hear everything from the sneeze of your neighbours and relentless barage of birds and airplanes. If you have auditory sensitivity this definitely is not a place to sleep. Otherwise central to some great snorkelling spots close to the waterfalls and downtown Hilo.

I actually loved this property. However, I wanted sit out in the courtyard next to the stone mini pond, but I could not because the flat stone area was covered in over an inch of mold slime. The property said we could pick fruit off the trees. I picked a papaya- it the thick mold/sludge under my feet caused me to slip and grossed me out. I had to wash my flip flops and feet. That area just needs to be scraped and cleaned so that guests can sit and take advantage of the water mini pond, lush vegetation area.

We ended up having the property pretty much to ourselves which was nice. It is no frills lodging and what the info on Expedia doesnโ€™t make clear is that it is a shared kitchen. However as I said there werenโ€™t many other lodgers while we we there so it didnโ€™t make a difference. It has AC which sometimes you donโ€™t find so that also was a plus! My one bit of advice is to bring good ear plugs if you stay here because there are โ€œcroakersโ€ which are frogs that like to start talking and singing at nightfall and they are loud.

So it was a great stay. If you are looking for a big fancy resort. This isnโ€™t it. If you want a bathroom a shower and a fridge to keep stuff cold while you explore the island. This is perfect. We left early in the morning and got back late. There is ample on site parking. We donโ€™t need all the extra frills so this worked perfect.

Youโ€™ll love this place!

A nice clean bungalow with good air conditioning and comfortable bed. I was most impressed with no bed bugs!! The kitchen is adequate with a gas burning stove top, rice maker, toaster and small coffee maker. The amenities are sufficient including iron and board if needed. There are plenty of dishes, pans and small pots. You may want to bring a larger cooking pot. The table for eating is very small but there is a bar with stools if you have kids. Thereโ€™s a large refrigerator. The nice walk to a private beach is very cool! I highly recommend this place!

No. 5 is a great stand alone cabin. Josh, the caretaker, was able to bring us extra pillows. It fit our needs. I would recommend a better, firmer mattress. It was very hot in the cabin when we first got there. I would recommend getting the A/C on at least two hours before check in time. An exhaust fan in the bathroom would also help.
