French Colonial Hotel in Central Saigon

Au Lac Charner hotel is a gem of a find right in the heart of bustling Saigon. This French colonial hotel has beautiful decor and has maintained its traditional feel. It is elegant with its understated colours and is bright. There is some quirkiness too. Our room has a Jaccuzzi-style bath in the bedroom and the shower is on the open-air balcony. Happily there are blinds to block prying eyes or 'the missus' would have had kittens. The hotel is clean and we loved that they offered free afternoon tea every day. It was always welcome to refresh us from the intense heat of the city. What makes Au Lac Charner stand out is its people. The staff are smiling, helpful, informative and willing. The star of the show, however, was Robert who checked us in at reception and whom we saw in several supervisory roles throughout our four-day stay. He always remembered our names, joked with us and was a mine of information. He guided us on places to eat, where to buy Vietnamese gifts (not tacky souvenirs) and helped us when we needed transportation. This is my sixth time to stay in hotels in Ho Chi Minh City and whilst they have all been good, it is Au Lac Charner which stands out as the best. We will be back, of that I am certain.

A welcoming hotel with very friendly staff. The room was spacious and unusual to find the shower on the balcony, but it was very private, and I quite enjoyed the novelty. Good facilities and a very enjoyable stay.

The staff went out of their way at all times to make sure all our needs were being met . We had issues with our online check in and Robert at the front desk not only checked us in but printed our boarding passes for us . We had our driver pick us up at 6:15 am as we had to be at the Airport early in Ho Chi Minh airport. Breakfast starts at 6:30 am at the Hotel. We asked if we could get an early breakfast. They did better, they had 2 boxes of breakfast items packed for my wife and I to take with us . Their service was excellent.

Good location with helpful staff.

Nice hotel with friendly staff in a good location. Only complaint was the noise from workmen drilling in the afternoon of one of our days. No warning given of this. If you go to breakfast buffet after 9.00 expect them to be running low on some items.

This hotel is right in the heart of HCMC. An easy walk to many fabulous attractions and surrounded by great dining and shopping options. The hotel has a beautiful lobby and an attentive and friendly staff. There's a buffet breakfast with an omelet bar in the mornings and high tea in the afternoons. The room was spacious and bright and very clean. I would absolutely stay here again the next time I visit HCMC.
