The tower room was well designed, attractive, clean and spacious. The balcony had two comfortable chairs with a view of the sea and rooftops.
The staff on check in were helpful and friendly. That efficiency was marred by a clumsy notification process as I'd been told I would receive and email when the room was ready. I don't have international roamaing on my phone but hooking into the WIFI was easy. No email came. A rude person at the desk informed me they don't email and never do and that the room was ready. - at 3pm.
Overall the arhcitecture and history are impressive but after stayiing here 3 times over the same number of decades I have decided much of the charm is lost. There are too many people roaming around the hotel. In a 7 days stay, not once was I able to get a lounge by the pool and it was always filled with children. Far from the adult experience I imagined.
The food overall seems to be reheated and unhealthy. The catch of the day is served with vegetables and seemed to be the healthiest dish on the menu in the Beach Bar. The Surfrider poolside cafe was useful for some dishes to take back to the room like an Acai Bowl or a donut.
Overall the charm is still part of the buidlings DNA but modern day people seem clueless as to how maintain the standard of the past with dignity.
