Skylon Airport Hotel
I had a long layover in Istanbul so I stayed only 1 night at the Skylon. The reception staff were friendly. I had prepaid the room and just paid for my shuttle at the desk. The room was clean but a bit run down. Plaster falling of the wall in patches, bathroom mirror light didn’t work and the shower itself was very dark inside. There was a kettle with tea bags and 2 small waters. A small mini fridge which wasn't very cold. TV was working but no signal, maybe I had to call reception to switch it on but I didn’t. There was one small window in the room up high and the aircon was working. Lots of restaurants and markets on the street nearby. The hotel is close to the airport so expect planes flying overhead all day and night. When I stepped in to the hotel all I could smell was cigarette smoke. The smell was all through my floor hallway and in my room. It wasn’t pleasant.

We needed a night to sleep as we had to return back to the airport early so opted for this hotel as it was close and very reasonable. We were really pleased with our stay here. Road next to the room was noisy but didn’t affect us.

Transports were very well organized and on time, the staff were polite, cooperative and kind. The hotel facilities were low, and the hotel was very noisy, however considering the staff and the comfortable surrounding restaurants and shops around, the organized transportation and the very low fee,it was a very good choice for one. night.

The staff on the reception desk were very helpful and friendly. Our room was clean. The only drawbacks were the noise from the busy street, and the light in the room and bathroom was too dim. This hotel is the best option for the short stay, and for the travelers who want to save money on the hotel and have some break from the flights and the airports.

Skylon hotel is located 20 minutes drive away from Istanbul airport. It is a convevient place to stay in case of long gaps between flughts.

You get what you pay for. I paid $24. I had a 12 hour layover and just wanted a safe quiet place to sleep for a few hours. This was a bad choice. There was gross brown mold on the shower floor because the shower does not drain properly. Someone stuffed toilet tissue in the toilet hinge - so the toilet lid does not close. The ceiling plaster in the bathroom had several holes in it. my phone would not charge when the lights were off, so what sleep I got was with the lights on. I was awakened at 3:15 am by a woman yelling and running in the hallway, and a man yelling after her. I was awakened again by a family with a baby entering the room next door at 4:15. There seems to be a bizarre arrangement with the cab and shuttle services to the airport …. $20 usd to go 11km each way. Crap - that’s as much as I paid for the room. Do not stay here.
