I booked this hotel some months ago and I started reading reviews prior to check in. I'll admit I got a bit nervous. That being said we decided to stay the night and try it out. First impressions were that there was more space than many rooms we've stayed in while in Japan. Many features look newish and it has a full kitchen. Then things get weird. The wall paper is peeling off. There's a persistent bad smell. There's roach traps everywhere. I tried to shower and the shower nozzle fell off. My husband tried to leave to do a Lawson run and the latch on the lock fell off. The beds were surprisingly comfortable but it's also loud in the morning with people talking in the alleyway. It was fine for the night but I wouldn't stay here again.

Very helpful staff and clean rooms. It’s located right next to the station, making everything super convenient. I highly recommend staying here!

Very modern. Room was small but not cramped at all. Shower was big enough for me 6’0 which isn’t always the case. Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Breakfast was delicious but not typical breakfast food if you’re from America, which I like. Very good location to get to bus and train. Walk to popular parks and markets was easy as well. Would stay again.

Oh my goodness! This has been the top experience I have had at a hotel. From answering all my questions before arrival to the Beautiful Smiles each morning, the beautiful, boutique touches, smells, sounds and esthetics of the property. The hotel far exceeded my expectations. The location was absolutely perfect as it was conveniently located. We forgot umbrellas and they were so kind to loan us the hotel umbrellas and they were so helpful in finding me a conveniently located doctor of accupuncture for a case of vertigo that I experienced after arriving from a 18-hour flight. That was a God-send! The front desk helped by calling the taxi cabs when we needed one and we felt like royalty. This hotel is a 10 out of 10 in every way! Thank you to all the Hotel Kanra Kyoto Team! You guys are amazing! Such beautiful people and such a beautiful atmosphere!
