I booked a double room with city views at the Elia Zampeliou hotel but am unable to review it as we ended up being given a room without any explanation in the nearby sister hotel Elia Fatma hotel - a dark dingy room with poor light and only a small terrace overlooking the internal part of the hotel - certainly no view. We were not advised of the change of room on checking in and I only realised the swap when we were shown to the nearby hotel across the street. When I questioned why we were not in the hotel we booked, the reception staff insisted that we had received an upgrade of a bigger room. No apology and no action to address the situation which we were dissatisfied with. The room may have been bigger but the addition of an extra single bed was of no benefit to us. Moreover the pillows were hard and lumpy and uncomfortable to sleep on. We enjoyed Chania but the hotel was a complete disappointment, average at best - the only plus I can possibly give is that the breakfast was pretty reasonable (although the coffee was not!)

This is a delightful hotel with very helpful staff. The only problem with it is that it is the labyrinth of pedestrian streets that make up Chania old town and it was difficult for us to find it - others might not find it a problem. Breakfast was excellent, and the beds were extraordinarily comfortable.

The problem is parking and there is no one to help you with your luggage. You have to carry your luggage about 0.3 miles
