Apparently there was a light at the door of our room that needed to be illuminated to get room cleaning. It was not mentioned to us and we had not room cleaning, water etc. for our entire stay. Also the hotel had a shuttle to the train station which was not mentioned to us. The property was lovely but communication needs to be much, much better.

Back felt mattress by second day. As solo traveler I would have preferred desk or table and appropriate chair instead of low, far back leaning chairs with coffee table. Though I saw luggage stands throughout the hotel, there was none in my room. Staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet was outstanding.

Perfectly located in the old town, 2 minutes walk to the main temples.. yet a quiet area at the same time. Lovely staff, great breakfast and the public bath is a plus! Highly recommend this hotel!

This hotel is wonderful! We picked it based on location, price, and reviews. The staff is fabulous. On arrival, for check in, we were offered comfortable chairs, hot tea, and a warm washcloth. Madoka, the staff person who welcomed us, was so amazing. She showed us to our room, explained how everything worked, got me a large size kata to wear to the public bath, and was just so sweet and nice. The location is great, in the Gion neighborhood of eastern Kyoto, close to many highlights and historic places. For example, Kennin-ji, the first and oldest Zen temple in Japan, is one block away. There are also lots of great restaurants nearby to choose from. The hotel has a lovely spa / public bath, open from 3 pm to 10 am. I went every morning on our 3-night stay, and had it to myself 2 of 3 days. Another highlight of this hotel is the free neighborhood walking tour. It leaves at 10 am & takes about 90 minutes. Kenta, our tour guide, was great and full of local knowledge. You learn so much more on a guided tour than you can by just walking and looking on your own. History of major sights, and also explanations of little hidden things right in front of you. Breakfast buffet was excellent, a variety of Japanese and western items. Even a tempura chef! Our room was spacious and clean, modern with a nice aesthetic. And, the price was quite reasonable. I would definitely stay here again.

Very pleasant stay

It was a very pleasant stay at the Celestine Hotel Gion. All the staff are very welcoming, friendly, and helpful, making sure that our stay in Kyoto is enjoyable. We appreciate their warm welcome during our stay. The breakfast is very impressive. The food is prepared really to the perfection. We stayed for 4 nights and really enjoyed every breakfast. The staff and chef are very friendly. We will miss them. The room is exceptional - very clean, cozy, modern with plenty of space. The air in the room is also clean. The overall hotel ambiance is very peaceful. The hotel is also strategically located in the Gion area. It is very walkable to many places in Gion and the surrounding area in Kyoto. Hopefully, we can come back again in the future.

Great location to visit Gion area and Kennin-hi. Hotel is not close to easy dining options. The room has nothing special from other hotels in Nishiki market area. Staff are very polite, but we just didn’t feel anything special that’s worthwhile for the price you pay.

Loved the Celestine. The facilities were spotless and the staff were so lovely. The location is amazing as well. We did stay in one of their larger rooms but would be happy to stay here in one of the smaller rooms because the staff were so great.

The property is amazing. Its location in Gion makes it really convenient to walk around and you feel fully immersed in the culture. The hotel itself is very clean, traditional, and well-kept… I would highly recommend.
