Our stay at this ryokan was enjoyable yet lacking. First off, the included breakfast was, as we were told upon arrival, not actually included and was 13 000 yen per person and only available upon reservation with very restrictive time slots. The reason we were given for not providing the included breakfast (which was a major reason I booked here) was that “nobody uses Expedia anymore so we haven’t changed it” even though “we have 3 reservations from Expedia every week.” In addition, we were charged for the use of the private bath without being informed it was an extra charge and we were charged for laundry? This “laundry” was just the regular changing of our sheets and towels, which we either had to fully opt out of for the entire stay or be charged extra for? The reasoning this establishment gave for everything was strange. Also, the room was quite nicked up and dark. The staff did their best within the weird parameters around everything and the room was comfortable, but I would not return. I would not recommend you stay here.
Lovely place with excellent staff making for a wonderful, authentic experience during our stay at Kyoto. Plus, very centralized to many locations we wanted to visit whether it he by foot, by bus, or by train
We had a traditional Japanese room, and it was a great experience. The mattress was too thin for us on the first night, but we were offered extra mattresses for the second night and we were comfortable. Highlights were the amazing staff, and delicious Japanese breakfast.
Wonderful stay in Gion neighborhood of Kyoto. Staff was helpful and international, so they spoke a range of languages. The room was fairly large and sleeping on the futons were very comfortable. Great deal for the price!
Stay away from this absolute toursit trap. Peeling wallpaper, an air conditioning unit that flooded our room, an attempted charge of 500y just for asking to see the "private bath" (we had a group and were curious how much it would hold) horrendous and unapologetic staff. Linnens rhat hadnt been washed in age and one of our bags were stolen from their bag check and all we got was a "We dont know who could have taken it. Only employees are allowed back there." No refund, no follow up. Not even an apology. Avoid this place at all costs.
The room, food, and customer service was quite exceptional. Nishiki Market and Kiyomizu were also elvery accessible from their location. Plenty of food places around and is quite close to several subway stations. No complaints, really. Just pure good time. Definitely would love to stay here again if I ever return to Tokyo.
Overpriced for what it is. Felt like I was camping - small room, had to set up our beds, uncomfortable. Had to reserve a time slot for the onsen (private session) for 500yen for 40 minutes. Very tiny bathtub and room.
Amenities available in the lobby (toothbrush etc) and free tea and water for guests.
They stored our luggage while we explored which was nice, no fee.
A bit of a walk to get to the subway station!
Overall felt like a tourist trap. Staff spoke fluent English.
Nice place to stay. Very clean, activities happening within the Ryokan gave us an opportunity to experience a tea ceremony. Multilingual staff, very helpful and nice. Walkable to the big market for shopping, different places to eat and transit.
Very nice traditional ryokan. English and other language speaking staff so very accommodating to foreign travelers. Clean hotel, nice Japanese style breakfast. Has yukata available for guests to try. Well-kept tatami mats. Futons were quite comfortable for first time experience.
Very expensive area, restaurants are limited if you are looking for a cheaper meal. Staff are very nice and room is very nice. Not much transportation nearby, but fairly close to some attractions.
