This is an awesome hotel. The Japanese style room was very nice. Do not hesitate to book this hotel for your trip to Kyoto. It’s close to Gion and many tourist sites. In general it was a convenient location for getting around Kyoto. The onsen was also very good at the end of a long day of walking everywhere. I’m glad I didn’t stay near Kyoto Station, which had less character and is very busy. I highly recommend using the luggage shipping service as well. It’s unnecessary to burden yourself with carrying luggage across Japan!

The hotel was very clean and centrally located. The staff was helpful and pleasant. Snacks and water available in the lobby 27/7. I would have given it 4 stars but the rooms were small and what I disliked the most was the breakfast. It was the same thing being served each morning. There was no coffee machine for anything but but dripped coffee.

We loved the hotel's thermal bath. The staff was friendly and available to assist. Don't hesitate to stay in the basement rooms; they are great and close to the thermal bath. The hotel is close to the trains, principal areas, restaurants, malls, and bars.

The room was narrow and small but comfortable. It's conveniently located to restaurants and attractions. One of the front desk clerks wanted to charge us for checking in half hour before the 3 p.m. check in. But after checking with somebody in the back, she came back to say the room is ready and there won't be any charge. That was a little strange. Overall we were satisfied with the Granbell.

One of the few mid price hotels in Kyoto with an onsen. Rooms are small but nice. Opulent bathroom with wonderful pola products. Very good breakfast with both Japanese and western options. Convenient walking to Gion/ Higashiyama area. Easy access to 2 train stations. 10 minute taxi ride to JR station. A few improvements: there are no drawers so please provide more hangers. Bathrooms are large but lack counter space around sink so add shelves please.

Great hotel

Check-in was super easy and all the staff were very friendly. The hotel was close to a lot of things to do and eat. Very walkable area and safe. The room itself was small but it seems like rooms in Japan are small in general. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. I would for sure stay there again.
