I like that it was only a couple of minutes from the train station and close to a lot of food options. The staff was friendly. My only caveat is that the fitness center smelled like old sneaker/trainers. It would nice to keep airflow or some type of air freshener in the gym.

Poor customer service after a long day made for an unpleasant stay. Amenities were also lacking. We booked this hotel specifically because it advertised a "fitness center"... but all they actually had was one stationary bike and some free weights. No treadmill, no elliptical, no proper cardio equipment. Every other hotel we stayed with in Japan that advertised a fitness center met our expectations for basic cardio eqipment, so it's not a regional semantic difference of what constitutes a "fitness center," but rather inappropriate advertising by this hotel. Would not stay here again.

Biggest disappointment was the staff at the reception. We checked in December 28 ~8pm and during check in I have already requested for luggage transfer to Tokyo on January 2, for when we check out. She confirmed that it can be arranged and that we should talk about it closer to the date. Come December 31, we asked her again but this time she just dismissed us saying that luggage transfer services were already on long holiday. We were advised it would take 5-7 days for the luggages to be transferred. We asked for other options and she just said nonchalantly that we hand carry all the luggages with us. Not very helpful at all! We spent the New Year worrying and researching about luggages transfer to Tokyo. Good thing we found out that Yamato office nearby can deliver within 24 hours. I hope that the staff can be more helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to this matter.

The raised platform upon which the futon-like beds rest is a trip hazard. I myself sleep on a futon, so I am used to that, but these were mattresses, about twelve inches above the platform. Getting up, with feet already on the floor, was an effort. I learned I had to rise in the same fashion as with a futon. I had to turn around, knees on mattress, feet off to rise. It took some learnin’.

Loved my stay here. Away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist area Gion which I loved. The restaurant was amazing and I had breakfast (which was ok) but the dinner was really good. The rooms are beautiful and normal sized for japan. The hotel itself was very very clean and quiet. The staff were always helpful kind and ready with suggestions should you need any, and every one spoke English for those who this matters to. (although I’m always ok if they don’t. I don’t believe in the English superior idea lol) I would stay here again 1000x over
