Hidden Gem in La Crosse

Everything was great at the Gundersen—staff, spacious, clean room, comfortable bed, full kitchen and table to seat four! It was like a timeshare. Only downside was that the huge bathroom had only a small amount of counter space.

Noise

The room was clean, which is good. The problem was noise. There was a door between my room and the next one, and I could hear unwillingly every word that was said in that room. Also, the hotel is located at a busy intersection with a traffic light. Trucks and motorcycles made noise accelerating from the light. Fortunately, I put the HVAC fan on continuous high and that muffled a lot of the noise.

The staff were great. Room and facilities are very nice. Breakfast is standard. I was there on a Wednesday night and there were motorcycles racing up and down the road from 1-3AM

They do not provide ANY service unless specifically requested and do not collect any trash from the room. Also the room key entry system does not operate consistently. It took 5 - 10 minutes to get into room most of the time with either key card. When I reported the issue to the front desk and asked if there was a solution, they only offered to re-key the cards, but the problem remained. Other occupants reported the same issue. This was also my experience during my visit to Gunderson in November 2024. IT IS VERY ANNOYING TO NOT BE ABLE TO GET INTO THE ROOM AND MY THINGS WHEN I HAD A SCHEDULE TO KEEP!

Nice area with great parking. Front desk gals were super nice. Small pool but hey, our kids loved it! They. Made the best out of it. Very comfortable bedding and pillows. Breakfast needs at 9:30 am which we went used to. Perks of getting a hotel was to sleep in but otherwise- everything was great.

The hotel is easy to find and spacious. Room cleanness can be improved, but not bad. Loud noise came from local traffic and we can feel the vibrations from hallway and upstairs when people walking. Overall, it’s really nice experience for a night.
