Really enjoyed my stay. Spacious room, lovely staff, great location. There was a fair bit of noise from other peoples doors banging shut but that wasnt a huge issue. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Good facilities but a little tired

We stayed 4 nights for a music festival and whilst the hotel is very well located and has good facilities, it is perhaps showing its age. The decor in the public areas and the rooms is looking old fashioned

This used to be a great hotel, but it’s now very tired and dated-looking and trading on its former reputation. Our room was gloomy; the tiles in the bathroom were damaged from rising damp, and the bottom of the bath felt like it was about to fall out at any minute. Everything – from the parking to the bottled water in the room – is an added, expensive extra. The sloped footpath at the front of the hotel made loading and unloading luggage difficult and potentially dangerous, and there was no staff assistance in sight. Most disappointing of all was the behaviour of some guest-facing staff. Despite having a visible injury, I was laughed at by reception staff while struggling to manage a luggage trolley at check-out rather than being offered help.

The property was in walking distance to centre of town. Also handy to other eating places, providing for a variety of tastes. Also close to major roads without being subject to the noise.

Felt very embarrassed at check in. Could not understand what they were saying. "We need a dollar to register your card". Had no idea what they were talking about. I stated "I had no idea what they were talking about". Tried to give them a dollar coin, then five dollar note. Still no progress, this went on for several times, her supervisor stepped in, still no idea what they were on about. Finally, one of them said "We need to swipe you card for one dollar to confirm its validity, you will get it back at check out." Finally, progress. At check out, no return of dollar but a ten dollar bill for parking, duly paid. If I hadn't pre paid, I would have walked out at check in. NEVER WILL I GO BACK TO GRAND CHANCELLOR. Score of 0. Still waiting for my dollar, its not the monetary value but the principle. In fact, new score of -10.
