The property is beautiful, and the staff is wonderful and gracious. Our room was clean and comfortable, but a bit small (we had nowhere to comfortably put our full size luggage) - just a note if you are a heavy packer like us, you may need to upgrade to a larger room! We loved the peacocks and the courtyard! We had some issues with taxis not being willing to go all the way to the hotel, so they would drop us off at the bottom of the hills and we would need to walk the rest of the way. This was NOT a hotel issue, but if you are unable to walk up the steep hills it may be a problem.

I don't typically leave reviews but we really had an outstanding experience at this hotel so I felt compelled to share! To start, you should know that the "free airport transportation" is for the journey TO the hotel only (which is not made clear in the Expedia listing). We originally wanted transportation to the airport after our stay, but there is very good reason to accept their transportation TO the hotel. It is within the castle walls where vehicles (except residents and taxis) are not allowed. The streets are VERY narrow and it's at the top of the hill, so you don't want to have to walk! Our taxi driver was very reluctant to take us there, so their shuttle service would have been helpful. I would definitely recommend accepting their transportation to the hotel. Aside from that, the area is VERY busy with tourists and crowds, however the minute you step through the hotel doors you will find instant calm and quiet! It is a really tranquil spot in the middle of a really busy area! If you want to be close to all of the major sights, but not feel like you're staying in a tourist trap, this is the place to be! The staff was incredible. We asked them for a dinner recommendation and they not only gave us a great suggestion but they made a reservation for us. The Fado restaurant they suggested ended up being the highlight of our two week travels and by far the best meal we had! I can't recommend Solar Do Castelo highly enough!

I loved this hotel! Central in the Alfama, walking distance to everything, beautiful patio with the odd peacock strolling around to enjoy the beautiful breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening. Comfy beds and well appointed rooms. An oasis in the castle. Loved every moment of my stay. I hope I have an opportunity to return again! The only thing I would say is you have mobility issues getting to the hotel might be an issue.

Beautiful Quaint Hotel
We only stayed one night in this lovely hotel after returning to Lisbon from Porto. Our flight home was the next morning. If I had known how lovely it was I would have returned a day earlier so we could spend another night in this wonderful hotel. It was tucked away on a small street in the Alfama neighborhood. The inside of the property was amazing! There was a center courtyard with tables and chairs for seating and peacocks wandering around! It was so peaceful! The hotel is right next to the Castelo de Sao Jorge. If you enjoy small boutique hotels, I highly recommend this one!

This is a beautiful property adjacent to the St. George Castle. It is at the very top of the hill, so bring walking shoes to handle all the walking of the cobblestones! Our driver wasn’t even able to make it the whole way there so we walked part of the way while the staff had a golf cart for our bags. Staff was very attentive, and able to answer questions and offer assistance every time we asked.

Small, quaint, no frills. Breakfast was nice. Eat outdoors on the small patio at your peril. The peacocks and pigeons will watch you closely and dive in for crumbs. The hotel is by the St George Castle and close to a few really nice churches, but be prepared to walk down and up hills from and to the hotel. Ubers cannot get close to the hotel so you need to walk 5-7 mins to meet them. Some taxis may get up to the hotel but it can take time to call one. The little museum in the basement is nice. If you are looking for a relaxing and romantic getaway, this may not be the place for you.
