We were upgraded from a slab hut to a stable. This place is perfect for a few nights in Longreach. We rely enjoyed staying here. Staff are friendly. It’s modern, clean and relaxing. Fully self contained.

We really enjoyed the friendly service provided by Wendy at check-in after a long drive and throughout our stay. We were even invited to enjoy a hot tub experience under the stars which was a highlight. Wendy provided an additional roller bed at no additional cost, as my partner had trouble sleeping. We felt comfortable and at home here at Saltbush Retreat. We definitely recommend this property. Thanks, Murray and Liz

It was a unique experience. Outdoor baths were a treat, but our bed was a bit saggy. Close to Stockmans Hall of fame and Qantas museum but too far to walk to town.

Saltbush is a lovely quiet place about 2kms out of town. We just stayed in a cabin which was ok but pretty basic. Just needs towel rails in bathroom. Having now seen inside a slab hut, I would be tempted to stay in one of those. Cabin was clean and comfy. Were glad for the extra 2 blankets on the first night as we didn't put heating on. Ron, the manager kindly picked us up from the train stn. Saltbush is walking distance to Qantas museum and Stockman's Hall of Fame which was great. There is no transport (unless you have a car) from Saltbush. We got taxi into town first day ($15) and grabbed some supplies. Then each evening we got the courtesy bus from the Birdcage hotel to pick us up and drop us back. Shame Saltbush doesn't do a couple of courtesy runs into town, say 10am and 2pm which would be great. We still had a great time. Lovely place to stay. Highly recommend.

Outdoor bath unique. Level of good service from a managers unique to similar properties. Did not like the very poor sound proofing between attached cabin. Did not like that cottages were so cramped in together and little privacy from others walking by.

We stayed in the Slab Huts, they were a very authentic feeling replication of slab timbered, but with insulated corrugated iron roofed huts, very roomy with great facilities and gave a true feeling of outback history. They were large and extremely comfortable and exactly what was portrayed on their website. We totally commend the operators who went out of their way to make our stay memorable.
