The location of this hotel is excellent and convenient to many attractions, restaurants, and shopping areas. It is safe and clean and the staff is excellent. Parking is easy, below the hotel. Breakfast is typically continental, providing oatmeal, yogurt, cold cereals, granola bars, bananas, oranges, cold boiled eggs, and freshly made pancakes with syrup, in addition to coffee, milk, and Swiss Miss instant cocoa.

We have stayed at this hotel nearly every year since 2006!! It never disappoints. The staff are as kind, welcoming, and helpful as you will find anywhere. The location is walkable to everything in Santa Monica, yet for an extremely reasonable price. I hesitate to write such a positive review because the Gateway is like a best kept secret!! We will always come back.

The property has parking that’s too small for SUV. Also there is no microwave in the entire facility or in the rooms. It’s very inconvenient.

Uncomfortable stay

No hairdryer! Bed constantly squeaked! Not able to turn on shower faucet. Had to go out into hallway to ask someone to turn it on. A man could not do it. I called down to the front desk and they sent up an engineer after I demanded one asap. He had to hit the faucet with his hand. This experience was awful! Back at the front desk I demanded money back. Since I booked it thru Hotels.com, they could only refund the paid parking fee of $17 and change. I think I deserve more money back from Hotels.com. I guess I should have taken a picture of me in my pajamas in the hallway and one of the engineer hitting the faucet. If I had tried that, I probably would have broken my hand!

Gteat stay!

Clean, convenient, safe, good value for money, the gateway had it all. The hotel staff were excellent. I reported a minor problem with the bathroom and it was rectified within 10 minutes.
