Good for solo travelers near the waterfront/beach
Loved that cruiser bike rentals were included with the stay. Room was tiny but efficient and clean. Location in downtown LBC was convenient for waterfront and beach access.

I stayed for two nights and the room was not cleaned and bed not made after the first day. The room was super small, barely the size of the king bed. The bath room was like one in a curise ship cabin. The room was not soundproof so I can hear the next door person having a phone conversation with someone. It is the smallest room I ever stayed in a hotel!

This is a very basic hotel that looks a little better inside than out. The room was fine without any special features. The hotel sign (neon) had some broken lights. For the price, it seems expensive.

Loved the room and the service. outside was kind of loud at 3am we heard some homeless lady arguing with someone. also saw a homeless guy before going to bed, setting a fire to a towel by the dumpster in the alley. overall the hotel is awesome and the service, just the surrounding area is a little shady.

A very nice hotel right in the heart of Long Beach. Check-in was very easy and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are bikes you can use at no extra cost, and there is a big communal kitchen with complimentary coffee and bottled water which is a really nice extra. The room was quite small but fine for me travelling alone. Bed is comfortable and everything works great. The room had a microwave and fridge, and a couple of bowls, cups and cutlery which is very useful. The supermarket (Vons) just down the road is handy if you're on a budget because you can get groceries there and cook meals in the hotel kitchen. There is no elevator but I didn't mind that personally, but maybe it's important to mention for others. I would definitely like to stay here again if I come to Long Beach in the future.

The Hotel Royal is in an old building but it has been thoughtfully updated. We found it a very comfortable place to stay. The staff were very friendly and they did a great job of communicating with us and responding to any messages we sent to them. The location is excellent, with many terrific restaurants in walking-distance. It’s not too far from the Latin American Art Museum or the Long Beach Museum of Art, either. I do have to mention one very weird thing that happened during our stay. I was alone in the room in the mid-afternoon, sitting reading on my bed when I heard a noise and looked up to see that an extremely hardcore pornographic movie was playing on the TV set. We had never once turned the TV on since we checked in, and—no—I wasn’t trying to watch anything of that kind on any of my devices. I found later that the hotel doesn’t even have any kind of PPV streaming services on the TV, so my best guess is that some prankster had found a way to remotely stream this to the TV in our room. It’s hard to assess if there is any risk of this happening again to future guests in the hotel—probably whoever did it has moved on. I am reasonably confident that the staff flatly refused to believe that I hadn’t somehow been responsible for this myself (or that I was making it up for some obscure reason) so I doubt they’ve made any serious attempt to fix the problem.

To be honest, not great. There was no closet, no luggage rack to put a well traveled suitcase on which meant it had to be on the bed. Additionally, at the bottom of the bedframe there is an extension which we both banged into. After a long day of travel, we wanted a glass of wine but forgot our opener. I was surprised the front desk nor the kitchen had one. I had to go to Village Market to purchase one. Also, the bottom of the tub was very slippery and the power button on the air conditioner was filthy.
