In general not a bad stay, but the staff was particularly resistant to helping me with an early check out without penalty. At check in on Friday there was an error with the checkout date which was incorrect. We were to checkout on Sunday, but were told it was Monday. Needless to say all I was looking for was not to be charged for an extra night that was never in play, The final decision which I deemed unfair, & poor customer service was to charge me a $40 early checkout fee. I think we can agree that they still had the room available for someone else where they made money, on top of the fee they collected from me. I do not intend for this location to be a future consideration for a stay.

The hotel was decent. For the price, I expected a better breakfast, although made it work for us. I'd suggest adding some chicken options or turkey sausage for breakfast as a variety. The pool was open however it appeared to be low in water level. We only stayed 2 nights so we did not have an opportunity to try it out. We booked this hotel since it was 38 minutes drive from Lurray Caverns. I think it may have been higher priced due to the holiday weekend, however it worked for us compared to the high amount closer hotels to Lurray was charging. As others have mentioned, there is a huge spider web near the front entrance right side of the hotel. I'm not sure if they are keeping it there to preserve nature, or they just never noticed it. Overall the check in was great, we arrived very late on a Friday night and the receptionist was very friendly and provided us suggestions/attractions near the area. The tub in the room needs a refinishing as there are some brown scratches near the drain. The room had some odor in it, however once we turned on the AC the smell went away. It came back when we left for the day and the AC was off again. I'd suggest to the hotel staff to leave it on prior to a guest arriving. Or maybe identify where the root cause of the smell is coming from. There is many local restaurants around the area to eat near the hotel.

We had a good experience at HIE Woodstock-Shenandoah. It was conveniently located for a midway meetup. The staff was friendly, kind and very helpful. While the hotel appears to be a bit older version of HIE it was clean and in order, we had no issues.
