Beautiful old grande dame of the railroad era

Wonderful old hotel. A little long in the tooth in a few areas, but sparkling clean, comfortable, and chock full of character. A perfect stay for someone who likes interesting and friendly over sterile and modern.

The Ruby Marie is my favorite place I have ever stayed. I arrived around 11PM and got to check in at the saloon, where the bartender was very welcoming. My room was so much better than I imagined, with tons of space and beautiful furniture and cozy bedding. The breakfast was delicious and was served in the cafe, and getting to have breakfast while the cafe was otherwise closed made it feel special. I would visit Madison again in part just to stay here. I was sorry to leave.

A gem of a hotel. Elegant and comfortable with an outgoing and friendly staff. Views of Lake Monona and proximity to downtown make this a great place to stay when traveling through Wisconsin.

We had a great stay!

We had an incredible one night stay at the Hotel Ruby Marie. The room was comfortable and very nice (room 26). Staff was friendly, especially in café for breakfast. We also checked out the attached bars and had amazing late night burgers ($5!!!!). You made our trip great, if we ever make it back to Madison-- this is where we will stay. Affordable, comfortable, clean, free parking, happy hour vouchers, yummy breakfast-- we couldn't have asked for more. Except for maybe how to turn down the baseboard heating-- we couldn't find a control. Even with the air conditioner running- it got up to 75 in the room. We were definitely cozy. (It wasn't a problem- just noting it) Thanks for a great stay!

Went to check out the University and stayed at Ruby. Murray period was absolutely perfect! We were given drink tickets for happy hour next store. A hot breakfast was included in the cute dining room period all very charming and great location for getting around on foot.

This hotel was very cute and unique from your traditional hotel. Very nice employee, clean, and easy to navigate. Some neat perks such as drink vouchers, breakfast, free water bottles, free candy and earplugs(for the train which we did not even hear the night we were there past 10. Easy free parking. And real creamer in the fridge!!! That was a surprise bonus.

I really loved this hotel. Very beautiful. I went with my daughter but this would be a beautiful place to stay for couples. Very romatic feel. There was a bar and restaurant right there. I love the old feel to it.

It felt like step back in time. The history of the place was very interesting and you felt it in the building. The options for happy hour at one local place, and breakfast being included allowed us to experience multiple places with one stay. The room was very clean and also very large! It definitely had an old-time appeal and charm.

Perfect stay!

This was perfect. I definitely will consider staying here again, especially if I travel to buy a bike from the shop across the street. The bar next door was low-key for a Thursday evening, and it was super close. Had a Reuben from another bar in the complex that was phenomenal! Breakfast in the morning was great after my run along the lake. I was also able to work in the cafe until about noon, which was much appreciated.

Pros-the hotel is very interesting and I loved the antique feel to it. There are a couple of pubs and restaurants attached to the hotel, which is very convenient (food, drinks, and service were amazing). They even give you a couple of free drinks and free breakfast at the associated establishments with your stay. Cons-they have no cash at the front desk... keep in mind if you intend to leave a tip for your room attendant. The pub below the guest rooms can tend to get a bit busy and loud, which is fun if you are participating, but not good if you are trying to rest. I arrived at 8 PM, and so check in at the front desk was not available. I had to check in at the bar, which was slammed. The bartenders were super friendly and accommodating, but you still have to wait a bit longer to check into your hotel room and offload your baggage. The parking lot (off street parking) is also shared with the pubs and restaurants, so finding somewhere to park can be a chore if you arrive later in the day. Overall, a unique and pleasant experience, just a couple of things that I wasn't prepared for.
