Excellent hotel for a stay in Madrid. Staff is very attentive and helpful. Rooms were clean and service is great. When I booked this hotel I was just interested in the location. But, after my stay, I’ll recommend this hotel to anyone.

First night staying at Riu I got food poisoning for eating a chocolate cake or either the jamon sandwich. Got sick and stuck in the room. On that day asked room service for a soup to help with my stomach and bread. The soup and the bread came in a BOX and cold! McDonald’s would have packed better. I couldn’t believe a hotel like that was serving food in a BOX and plastic silverware. @ over $300 rate this is outrageous!!! Things got worse when I started to feel worse and asked the reception if they could get me a doctor. They said they would transfer me to someone that never answered. I would have gone to the hospital but let the poisoning run its course. Cancelled my reservation for the other 2 days which they still wanted to charge me a penalty but I said I was leaving because they made me sick, so finally they let it go and cancelled w/o penalties (which would have been over $400) anyway… Riu never again…

The hotel was well maintained with attentive, courteous staff and festively decorated for the Christmas holiday. The property is conveniently located with restaurants and attractions a short walk or quick taxi ride away. We stayed in a Jr. Suite with the terrace overlooking the Plaza Espana and daily views of the sparkling sunset over Madrid. Would definitely recommend a stay at Hotel Riu in Madrid!
