nothing and nothing as advertised on expedia! very old construction and the breakfast lacks everything! very disorganized! I'm disappointed! hot spring time is not enough to enjoy anything! I don't recommend this place to anyone
Very friendly staff especially Mazukawa san. Cheers to have such a great service oriented staff.
I have traveled many times to Japan and he is the BEST front desk staff i hv ever met. He really goes out of the way to help n explain things. Kudos!
The hotel is incredibly rundown and grimy feeling. The staff tried to make us comfortable but it was not at all what we were expecting. Disappointing for the cost. We made the best and did enjoy their breakfast that was included.
The ryokan has a very quiet and relaxing ambience and provides utmost comfort to the guests. It was my first onsen experience and turned out to be amazing amidst bountiful snowfall. It was easy to tune out of hectic modern lifestyle and yet enjoy nature's wonders with all the modern comforts at Minakamikan.
An excellent stay! The room was large and comfortable with a gorgeous view of the river. The Onsen were excellent with many choices available during the day. Highly recommended!
We stayed in a Japanese style room with a private open-air onsen which was fantastic. The room was a very nice Japanese style room with tatami mats, a lovely view of the mountains in the distance, and the Tone river running right by the hotel.
The kaiseki dinner was incredible, we've never had anything like that meal. Our beds were made while we were eating, the futons were so comfortable and the duvets were the fluffiest I think I've ever felt.
We can't vouch for the public baths in the building since we just used our private one.
Overall, it was an amazing experience, one we would love to replicate at some point in the future if possible. Highly recommend if you're looking for a traditional ryokan experience.
The local area was a bit of a dead spot with not a lot going on and limited restaurants. We didn't eat in the hotel as the food choice was limited and quite expensive and by the condition of the rest of the hotel we judged it might not be that god. Can't fault the service though. As always with the Japanese they were lovely.

It was for business. It is a great price. The only thing is that this Ryokan is quite old and outdated. There is also a lot of bugs.
Really enjoyed this Ryokan traditional inn with the nature and the convenience of a top class Japanese inn which offers lots of relaxation and discovery. Many hot baths and excellent Japanese food. Our stay was really very agreeable. We will come back from Tokyo.

Nice, big ryokan
A little confusion with the reservation. I had booked a room with 2 beds and tatami area, but when we phoned in advance to check we were told we only had a Japanese style room (no beds, just futons). After a few phone calls with Expedia, all was resolved successfully.
Minamikan is very nice, right in the middle of town so able to walk to a few of the restaurants on the main street. Dinner is the highlight - well prepared traditional Japanese. They also have a good 3 local sake set. The baths are supposed to be a feature - not so special but nice enough. Room was fine, but wifi only in lobby area. It's a big ryokan but not so big car park. They park your car for you so you may have to wait a few minutes in the morning for them to get it out.
Overall, nice place, good stay.
Minakamikan has good views from its lobby and its lobby is huge although a bit dated. As we paid for the 'run of house room', we got a huge room with twin beds and a tatami seating area. It was great value. We totally enjoyed the experience. The room can easily accomodate 5 pax. The room had only the road view and so, not much to be excited about. However, we arrived late and it was not easy to finally found a small restaurant for basic food. The Japanese breakfast buffet at the hotel had a good selection of Japanese preserved vegetables. It was good enough. I would definitely like to return again and try its half-board room.
Very spacious room with river view. Not much to do outside the hotel, but hotel baths make up for that. Beautiful snow overnight. If no snow, would be a little disappointed.

A well kept secret
A very under rated hotel in a great location overlooking the Tonegawa river. The area has suffered recently as locals (meaning the Japanese) find it as easy and cheap to holiday overseas as it is to holiday domestically in Japan. Staff were great (although like almost any other counter situation a ringing telephone takes preference over a waiting guest). Once I told the check in staff to leave the phone to someone else after taking 2 calls while we were waiting, he became attentive and efficient.
Room was comfortable and clean, the onsen was good.
Minakamikan is a great place to Stay, Clean and bright interior.
Onsen was very nice, rooms have been keep in top shape, with new fresh tatami mats, clean walls, etc.
Buffett breakfast had a lot of choices, Japanese and some western items.
Wi-Fi in lobby only.
free transport to and from Minakami station can be arranged.
