Well.....this is why you should take a moment to read the reviews before you book. There must have been 30 units and we were the only ones there for 2 nights! When we arrived, there was no-one there. We went for a drive and rang until someone answered their phone so we could get a key. The room wasn't sparkling clean - the carpet had not been vacuumed. We went and bought disposable plates and cutlery as there was only cups. The bed was comfortable and the view......incredible.

We were very disappointed - the heater didn't work, there was something seriously wrong with the TV - only 1 channel worked, the rest of them were frozen (and were still frozen in exactly the same places the next morning - we have photos), AND it wouldn't accept casting from our devices. Also, there was a lot of black mould in the fridge, the toilet wasn't clean, and the shelf in the bathroom vanity was unusable due to dirt/rust (we also photos of these). Finally, no one answered the cell phone number that was provided, nor the landline, nor any of our texts. We stayed here earlier this year, and enjoyed our stay, which is why we returned, but unless we receive an apology and (at least) a partial refund, and an assurance that this won't happen again, we won't be returning. This was a bizarre stay and quite eerie. I’m sure Manapouri thrives in the summer months but it was deserted in August. We arrived with the map taking us to the cafe (which looked as though it was closed down) rather than hotel, upon figuring out where the hotel was our key had been left out the front of reception which was closed. We found our room with no dramas, and whilst it initially appeared well presented, we soon noticed the bathroom was not clean (hair that was not ours on the floor and in the shower), mould in the shower, sand on the chair, and the quilt cover had not been cleaned either - one can only hope the sheets had been washed. The television did not work well either, with stations freezing or not being available at all - this may be due to the location but we were told about this if this is the case. During our time here we did not see a single person, however, did hear traffic pass every so often. Check out was easy, dropping the key off where we picked it up, but for 9am on a Monday morning we would’ve expected to see a staff member and this did not happen. Not worth the money we paid, and whilst the room did the job we would not stay again.

If there's nowhere else then this will do - just!
This is a motel that is still in the 70s sadly. VERY average rooms and 2nd worst I have ever stayed in. Bed was OK if a little soft and sheets and towels decent too. But the fixtures and fittings all past their use by date. At least the shower gave off a decent water flow but the shower curtain is too short so the bathroom floor gets wet. But the Motel putting a sign up saying dont flood the bathroom is therefore a joke as you have little option due to their choice of curtain.

The view is fantastic. The amenities and options that the booklet in the room says are available are not. The restaurant is closed. The buffet breakfast doesn’t exist. The toaster was filthy. The beds are well past their use by date.Lumoy and big dips. The fire extinguisher is out of date, last check on it done 2015.

Fantastic position. Clueless staff with very limited English. Documentation in room out of date. No menu available. Bathroom needed upgrading. Lavatory pan badly stained and disgusting. Fortunately there is very good restaurant (The Church) a short distance down the road. Motel has phenomenal potential and could be a gold mine if properly run.

Fridge had not been cleaned, spilt and used milk left in it. The curtains were hanging off the runners. The bath has seen better days and should be replaced. Quaint bedding... The location is great and the views of the lake and surrounding mountains are fantastic, but the accommodation needs much updating. No cutlery and plates, though toaster provided.

Beautiful spot. Very old and dated. Needs a lot of maintenance and cleaning. Advised staff on arrival that there was a pile of dirty crockery and cutlery outside our door and asked them to remove. It didn’t get removed until late the next day. Leaving the little soaps that the previous guests used in the shower might be their version of conserving resources. But no thanks. Bleach wouldn’t go astray in the bath and toilet. But you get what you pay for I guess.

This place is very dated and really needs an upgrade. Bed was comfortable, no microwave in the room to do any food. There was a shared kitchen but did not use as didn’t look great. The Church bar and restaurant down the road was brilliant, so worth a visit and want some good food.

Bed wasn't comfortable, water pressure in shower was terrible, shower curtain was moldy, chair on balcony was broken, parking was terrible. I would prefer to sleep in my car. The view and location was excellent. They should bulldoze the place and rebuild.
