No as bad as people make out.

We were upgraded to a deluxe room on arrive, big spacious room which was clean and tidy and had everything we needed for our nights stay. We stayed for the one night whilst we were in the city to see Lady Gaga, the beds were very comfortable, bathroom clean and shower great. Why this place has a bad reputation I don’t know, I’ve stayed here numerous times over the years and not had a bad stay!

No light over mirror to do make up, reception/bar toilets had locks on the door. Had to show photo Id for all guests at reception.. and gave no reason other than its process. On entry we had to show room key and state room no… again don’t understand why, as it wasn’t checked against anything. A outdated hotel in the heart of the city..

Room not executive. Dull and boring, windows filthy and inbetween window and window protector dirty. Chandeliers need a good dusting. Fire door didn't close on landing to bedrooms. Location great breakfast edible. For the price of the room not worth it.

Hotel is in a very convenient location next to Piccadily and about 5 mins from the train station. The interior is quite grand reflecting the building's history but on the flip side, due to its age there is not much sound proofing but it was not a big deal. Opted in for breakfast which was reasonable value for money. Overall a decent hotel for a reasonable price.

The hotel is ideally located in the centre of Manchester, and pretty nice. The room itself was fine, enough for a short stopover. It is facing the bus station so it can be a bit noisy, but it didn't bother me too much at all. The drawbacks: a socket (normal plug or USB) would be great by the bed. I arrived around 9.30 and there was only one staff member at the counter, meaning I had to wait for some time before the previous guests were servered.
