I have stayed here twice now while attending events in Mankato. The rooms are spacious and clean and well appointed. The hotel is within walking distance of everything in downtown Mankato and has easy parking on the weekends.

Cool Retro Design

We enjoyed our stay at the Alexander; our bed was comfortable, the room was spacious and had what we needed. We loved the retro design of everything and the interesting history of the building. The location made it easy to walk to a downtown pub for a cocktail and to breakfast in the morning. We did wish for another lamp in the room — there was one small desk lamp which provided a little light, a small window, and the only other option was the very bright overhead lights. While the room was super bright, the parking area behind the hotel was very dark. I realize the hotel uses the lot of a neighboring company, so they may not have control over this, but walking to the back door of the hotel from my car was more than a little uncomfortable. There were neighboring dumpsters, corners and an alley that made the relatively short walk uncomfortable for a woman alone. We would stay here again!

Property is minimally staffed. To check in we had to call a phone number, even tho we had access codes. No one answered. We proceeded to our room using the codes given. Went out to dinner and two hours later someone called back to "check us in". The next morning we went to breakfast, came back and the front door code no longer worked. However now the hotel was staffed. We were let in and given a new code. Then our room door code no longer worked. Back to the desk and we were told we'd been a "no show" so our codes were cancelled. I explained we were there last night and the call to check in situation. She wanted the name of the person, which I had no idea. She gave us new door codes again. None of them worked. I tried the original door codes given in the original confirmation and those worked... The second and final night there, a group of ppl were partying in the breakfast area at the end of the hall. That kept us up until after 3 am. The hotel wouldn't know that was going on, as it was again not staffed that evening. The hotel interior itself is nice, new and clean. The room was really dark, painted a deep green color including the ceiling and there was one very small window. The building is old and has a lot of creaks and noises as old buildings do. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was large and well done. Overall it was clean. The thermostat didnt seem to do anything. Always reading 64.5 degress but it was definitely not that cold. And quality TP would be good.

Had a good experience here. Was far enough away from the heart of party central, but close enough to walk to and have a good time. We would definitely stay here again.
