Great history, nice clean rooms, friendly staff, breakfast could use a real boost, not sure if downstairs is still functional, but seems like great space
Quaint historic hotel. The Presidential Suite was spacious and unique. Upgrades to the jacuzzi tub and bathroom provided added comfort. Staff very attentive. Only drawback was lack of restaurant on site and very limited breakfast - but other restaurants in walking distance. Pleasant stay after visiting nearby Maquoketa Caves.
Front desk was very nice and lobby is beautiful. This hotel is historic and has a very European feel in the rooms (high ceilings, bathrooms, antique furniture). Everything was spotless, bathrooms small but very clean and refreshed. Shower/tub was excellent and new. We didn't have a hair dryer in the room, but was able to ask for one without problem. Furnishings are very solid. It is currently the best option for the area, hands down. Small town downtown but many eating options all around. We will stay here again!
The place is beautiful if you like history take time to read the front desk newspaper clippings. The beds are very soft and bouncy they do not have a lot of support but I still slept. The neighboring spot is a car lot which uses very bright lights all night long so make sure to keep your blinds closed tightly. The lounge and restaurant were closed.
We saw one staff member. He was very nice and attentive.

Very nice and peaceful place to stay! The only thing I didn't agree with was the breakfast. But everything else was what I was hoping for. I will be back. Everything was walking distance that I needed.

We love the Decker, but ….
The elevator was out of service. We had a room on the third floor. Which wasn’t bad overall. Just during load in and load out.
The bed was not very comfortable. I should have asked for a different room.
The lounge was closed. It was open last time we were there and were looking forward to it.
Overall we enjoy staying at the Decker. But they will need to make some improvements before we return.

We had to leave the property…not up to our expectations
Beautiful historic building in downtown Maquoketa. While it might lack some of the amenities of more modern hotels, it.more than makes up for it character and ambiance. The host that greeted us was very friendly, courteous and nice. Offered to help carry our bags up to our third floor room. It is within walking distance to Maquoketa Brewing and other businesses downtown. Overall would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice peaceful place to stay and would definitely stay here again.
We were told there would be an elevator but upon arrival not available. My spouse has breathing issues so stairs and long hallway to room was too much for him. We asked to see our room. Bed was not a queen, room and bath was very tiny. Not at all what the pictures showed. Everything was very disappointing. We did not stay.
This historical hotel was incredibly beautiful. We stayed on the 3rd floor but the elevator was out of order. Just a slight inconvenience. All the furniture in the suite was antique and was very nice but a comfortable sitting area with a couple pieces of more modern furniture would have been nice.
Probably the cleanest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. The owner is doing an excellent job putting this ancient hotel back together. I would stay there again. Close to the caves.
First off, there is no restaurant or bar, and no breakfast that we were aware of. The staff was friendly, room was clean and quiet. The bed needs to be replaced as it sagged in the middle. Good water pressure and temp in the shower. For the price, I give 3 stars. I love historic buildings, but this hotel definitely could use some TLC.
The building is beautiful inside and may become a nice place to stay some day. They still have a lot of work to do to get there. All the wood trim outside hasn't seen a coat of paint in years. The plumbing fixtures (faucets and shower heads) look very cheap.
