Great location - but not much else

The location of the motel is amazing. Nice seating area outside looking west to the sunset The room was musty smelling, the sink was cracked, carpet needed cleaning, no mattress pad on the mattress and window air conditioner did not work Breakfast is a strong word for what was served; weak coffee, pre-packaged danishes and little yogurt cups

Great location. Nice bay views and sunsets. Great chairs outdoors and seating areas on grass by the water. But the room are well past their prime with outdated furniture and style. A thorough fix up, caulking, and paint job would do wonders as a start. Screen door kept falling out of the track. Funky odors at times. Updated fixtures would be a bonus and make the experience more worthwhile as well as justify the cost. Bed was okay at best. Breakfast - marginal. Really - property has lots of potential but has lost its shine ...

Is this the right hotel?

I'm not a hyper critical person. But I'm surprised that the reviews of this hotel are as positive as they are. We arrived late so perhaps we were assigned the last and worst room. Idk. The bathroom had peeling wall paper, the carpet was damp near the refrigerator, the air conditioner controls were inaccessible, and the furnishings seem to date from the 1970s. I reread the online reviews after our stay and frankly it seems that we were in a different hotel than previous reviewers.

The place is old, run down, uncomfortable bed, minimal toiletries. View was the only good thing. I paid 3 times what the room next door did. Very disappointing at the tune of $261

We stayed at Sunset on the Bay last week with our four kids for two nights (I wish we could have left after one) The conditions were very poor, dated, and dirty. The bathroom drywall was falling apart, carpet was missing from the floor, stains were on the sheets/bed and the pullout couch, and a rotten apple was found behind the couch. There is no maid service - Staff did not come to our room to empty garbage or give fresh towels. Breakfast selection was small and poor in the morning. We paid over $500 for two nights which was shocking given the state of the room. The only positive was the the view of the lake and there was actually hot water/good pressure when showering. We planned this trip last minute, so our options were limited for a family of 6. Sleep under the stars before choosing this hotel.

Cute motel right on the water

The motel is cute, a little dated but clean and fit our needs. The best part is the location right on Munising bay with a view of the town. They have chairs by the water to sit, relax and take in the view.

It is close to all the tourist attractions and activities. I like the view with the front of the motel is the Lake Superior you can sit there and watch, especially the sunset, we love watching that.
