The nearest parking was a garage over half a mile away. From there, you have to lug your suitcases up and down a lot of steps to get to your room. I got lost several times trying to leave the property. The room was gorgeous, with a hot tub and sauna. But the smell of mildew was overwhelming. I guess it's to be expected in a cave, but it needs a dehumidifier. One night it was so bad that I was getting sick, so I actually slept outside on a bench. But the location was perfect, and the staff set me up with tours. Breakfast was okay, with eggs and bacon for the Americans.

We had a lovely view from the front of our room to the center of Matera. Excellent room with spa. The front desk provided the hints where to go and what to do. Overall it was an excellent experience.

Hotel In Pietra is a fantastic choice for visiting Matera. The entrance/lobby could not be more grandiose - it used to be the XIII century church of San Giovanni. I used room 1004, large, tastefully furnished, comfortable, and with probably the best balcony view over the old city. The staff is friendly and most helpful. I will certainly return.

Matera is simply stunning and this hotel is no exception. We stayed in suite 1003, part of the 13th Century bell tower and it truly is one of the most unique places I have ever stayed with stunning views from the terrace (this is the only suite with one). Very walkable into the main centre and all attractions. I carried 2 heavy cases but a warning to those with mobility issues that the whole area is pedestrianised with steps to and from. The jacuzzi was excellent and opulent and facilities generally good. Breakfast was decent. Only slight downsides for me were the staff were slightly stand offish compared to other places we stayed. Also they had an iron but no ironing board (?). No coffee machine in room, which you would expect in a luxury room and only one coffee offered at breakfast (not enough for me!). But these are minor for a truly unique and exceptional piece of history in the heart of a spectacular town. Good value too. You would pay 3 times this in UK for such a room.

A)The property is amazing, is all clean and well maintained. The experience to stay there is unique. B) However, the hotel should add in their de script that they have NO PARKING. And the should hire a person to guide the tourist from the parking to the hotel due the difficult small streets that you have to walk to arrive to the place. C) The breakfast is until 10:00am. However, we went to have our food at 9:30am and they had almost nothing left for us. The quality of the food under average. D) When we arrive the offer to us a welcome drink but at the end they (check-out) they inform us that we have to pay those drink (no sense). E) Good area to discover, really nice atmosphere and restaurants around.

We had a wonderful time staying at this hotel. Built right into a cave, our room was spectacular and we were in awe the entire time. The hotel lobby is also very beautiful having once been a church. The staff were all lovely and very helpful with suggestions for restaurants and walking routes to see all the historical sites. Marta was especially helpful, in assisting us with parking and also helping us to bring our luggage to the hotel as it is a bit of a walk. The room was very clean and had a beautiful view of the sassi di matera. Highly highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting matera for the first time and want to experience what it is like to sleep in a cave dwelling. Would definitely come back to stay here!

Hotel Boutique molto bello ma la stanza in cui sono capitato è improponibile. Piccolissima, non c'è spazio per nulla, una sedia, dove poggiare una valigia. Costituita da un piccolo ingresso dove è situato il boiler dell'intera struttura, un bagno e una stanza da letto dove c'è solo lo spazio per il futon (un materasso a terra). Una scala per accedervi è a pioli. Bisogna arrampicarsi. Non adatta a persone anziane o chi come me soffre di mal di schiena. Non dovrebbero fittare un simile tugurio come stanza matrimoniale. Sconsiglio vivamente la stanza "small". Personale cordiale.
