Use as last resort, but close to Southern Cross st
Bed was extremely uncomfortable, booked through an app and they wanted $100 at the desk as a security deposit even though they already had my credit card, toilet roll holder fell off the wall, flipped over the sheets on the bed only to find dirty prints which could only be described as dirt, fully exposed plaster as in the photos, extremely outdated television that wouldn't connect to anything and didn't have a view of what was on as a digital display. Kitchen was being apparently renovated but wasn't informed of this prior and I eat keto which now made it extremely difficult to go and find food. Even though our room was on the second floor our room faced onto a alleyway between two buildings and we had to listen to all of the drunk people throwing up, fighting and yelling all night. The reason I chose this hotel was because it was the closest to Southern Cross station and I am a person with a walking disability

We were impressed with the front-desk staff by the name Carmen, who displayed commitment in helping us to check room availability when we arrived rather early in the day. She was empathetic and concerned at all times whenever we approached the counter with questions. We are also grateful to the cleaning staff, a young Asian lad who carried out a great job. The check-out staff (not Carmen), however, did not appear to be aware of the the $100 deposit to be returned to us, therefore training is needed on this point to all staff.

Not notified that dining and breakfast isnt currently available due to ongoing maintenance. Not a very welcoming environment. Toiletries were very minimal and coffee sachets were disgusting (cheap and nasty). No USB ports available. The positives were that it was clean and good location if needing connections through public transport at Southwrn Cross Station

Great location and comfort but needs clean up work
I picked the Alto Hotel because of the central location, just around 5 minutes by walking from the central station where the SkyBus stops coming from the airport. Also, it is a great location to explore Melbourne CBD and even any other neighborhood using public transportation easily accessible in the area. The rooms are spacious enough, with nice services and a comfortable bed. Nevertheless, the hotel needs to work on the cleanliness of the rooms. My room had several balls of hair and dirt, and the worst part was that they remained there even after they supposedly cleaned my room during my stay. It is the only hiccup I suffered during my stay, but it is a significant one. Regarding the staff, they were all very professional and friendly, helping me continuously during my stay.

Late check in was a bit of a nightmare especially after a long flight. Staffing in the hotel seemed quite minimal. There was no breakfast on offer but there are plenty of food outlets nearby. The room was fine for one but would be a bit cramped for two

We have enjoyed previous stays at the Alto and it's very conveniently located for transport options however this time was a disappointment. The room was by a laneway and we were kept awake by screaming all three nights, the room had an overwhelming smell of bleach, the lounge and breakfast facilities were closed for renovations, the bed was made in such a way that the covers couldn't be pulled up and there was a shower curtain that clumped and couldn't be properly drawn. All these are minor inconveniences but added together leave us disappointed by our stay this time.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, the building was beautiful. The breakfast was terrible, and there weren't enough staff to ensure everyone had cutlery etc. We had to open cupboards and search for salt and pepper and coffee cups, the coffee was bitter and there wasn't enough food.

Great management and team. I enjoyed my stay, the hospitality was kind and thoughtful. The room was comfortable and clean, bed very comfortable. Hotel room had a microwave and toaster. Windows were double glazed which made the room peaceful. On ground floor there was a cosy, warm lounge area with library of books plus coffee/tea/hot choc making facilities which were provided with compliments. One of the best hotels I have stayed at. I plan on staying again.

A quiet hôtel close to the Southern Cross Station and the airport busses. Free tram to the city on front of hotel - approximately one kilometre to CBD. Breakfast option is pretty limited but not expensive. Quiet and convenient are the key words.
