Good points: - check in easy all information text messaged to me for my late check in - parking was easy - sheets/linen was good - staff were friendly and helpful Bad points: - shower and bathroom were gross - mould, black mould. Could so easily be cleaned - no kettle in the kitchen - window locks didn't work - a bit unsettling with a ground floor apartment, didn't feel that safe - bed needs an upgrade, sinks in the middle pretty bad - garden beds out the front have been left abandoned - it could be made really nice but hasn't been Overall the property *could* have been great, but some things have obviously been let go and not cared about.

Booked this as the reviews weren't too bad. It didn't have a lift so we had to carry our luggage up the stairs. Note rooms 7-10 are on the top floor. We expected the place to be a little run down but found out it was mainly from the lack of maintenance. Cutlery and crockery a mish-mash - no two forks and spoons or drink-ware were alike. Pluses: Good location, room layout, shower and electricals (except TV and ventilation fans) and wifi work well, kitchen trash cleared almost daily. Friendly staff at check in and housekeeping. Minuses: A little stale smelling as a first impression. Base of toilet had urine stains, shower muck on grouting, toilet trash wasn't cleared for the week, TV had 'no signal' (thank goodness for youtube), big spiders (one crawled on me at night and accidentally squashed it when flicking it with my leg, next day killed another one with a body about 8mm long), living room roller blind mechanism free-wheels allowing the blind to crash down onto the sill if not controlled, doesn't stop half way; only fully open or fully closed. No privacy curtains, toilet ventilation fan roars like an engine, kitchen ventilation fan 'chirps' as it struggles to turn. Lastly security may be of concern as the main stairwell is dark for the first few hours of the night, the main door and room door are run by codes and the chain lock is able to come off even when it is fully slid into place (it's damaged and allows entry with just a little force). Overall just short of an OK.

We chose these apartments because we were going to the Melbourne Cup and it was advertised as being only 800 mt away. This was only if you were a crow. Reality was 5.3 km away by road or a 2.5 hour walk. Reception was in another building. Had to pay extra for parking which was unexpected. There was no lift and stairs were dirty. It looked ok on first look at apartment but cleanliness was only surface deep. Mould in shower and on ceiling. Removed rubbish bag and bin was disgusting. Took rubbish to bin and found the outside bin area was full of cigarette butts, rubbish and broken glass. Had not been cleaned in months. Cooking utensils all needed replacing, very old and well used. Dining table and chairs old and rocked. No room to put your bags(not good if you have a bad back) and tv in a very low position.

No check in reception in house and have to do it at Askron apartment nearby. Sofa need to change. Very inconvenient to have to come down from car everytime to key in code to open the auto gate. Should lower down the flat rate carpark fee per day for the guest staying in. Overall good place to stay.

Unclean room
As a house keeping supervisor for a hotel i have certain but not unreasonable expectations. However nothing prepared me for the shock of walking in to my assigned room to find it had not been cleaned at all! The bathroom mirror was filthy, the sink had hair in it, the shower had not been wiped down or cleaned, the toilet had stains in it from the previous occupant. The kitchenette had food crumbs and stains all over the bench and there was food waste left in the sink. Then there was the hair all over the room. The only clean thing in the room was the linen on the bed and the towels. On calling reception i received an apology but was asked if i was ok to stay in the room as there was nothing that could be done at that time (6.30pm), so i stayed. Speaking to reception the following day, again i receive an apology but no real suggestion of recompense of any sort, only the promise of a great discount rate for my next stay, as if that might happen. Extremely disappointed, as no matter how much you pay for your room it should at least be clean and without the presence of the previous occupant.

Great location
A great location with everything you need, very helpful and organised staff jut a phone call or text away. Staying in the heart of Carlton with everything you need a short walk away or several tram trip options around the corner. Plenty of space, a kitchenette and onsite undercover parking with a fast cold air conditioner as needed for a hot few days.

Confusing check in & late check out process
The check in process was very confusing-there is no reception at the Drummond, as I found out after I was dropped off there with all my luggage. I had to walk to the sister apartments, The Alston, on Elgin street, where check in was done. I had missed this, as it was part of fine print under important information. No street address is written for the Alston though, but is left at the entrance to the Drummond.I was offered the choice to remain there, which I did, as a room was available. I'm not sure that the swap was value for money by comparing the two retrospectively. I asked for a free upgrade to late checkout at 12. The coded door, meant that the cleaning service arrived promptly at 9am, loudly banging on door, then entering apartment to clean. After a busy week, I would have appreciated more privacy & a sleep in. Reception said, the cleaner was told I was checking out late. Although clean, the room was small and some street noise filters through. For the high price paid, I would definitely book elsewhere next time.

Place is well located, surrounding quiet, room well maintained, has the necessities, door is amazingly hard to open, the killer is the lack of an elevator, carrying heavy luggage up a few flight of stairs is a put off.
