Everything was great but we couldn’t get the heater working so it was freezing.. front desk came to look and gave us a replacement desk heater which fixed the problem but depends on how comfortable you want to be in the room.. easy location right out the front of Spencer st station..

Wonderful Stay Here
Wonderful stay at The Great Southern Hotel yesterday- experience was, on the whole- excellent, with staff who were extremely polite and helpful. I appreciated being able to store my luggage until my departure later today- and the breakfast was superb. One slight issue was dust and debris in parts of the room and bathroom- but I tend to clean areas myself before their use- so it was not a major fault at all. I was also charged $20 for a prepaid full breakfast, when the price listed was $17. (Not sure if it was a service charge- or what the reason was.) In spite of these minor issues I Will most certainly stay again. Thank you for your service.

Its easy access for us as we love walking and wondering around food is easy access on the streets, facility with the price its all good we only use the place to sleep and shower, if you are on holidays you are always on the go. ALL THE STAFF ARE LOVELY and THE restaurant game me FREE ice cubes thats the main thing. The family rate is as PERFECT thats why we gave a bit of NZ chocolate to taste for the staff. Defenitely use it again. Thank you to the staff❤️

The positives (1) 120m to Southern Cross Station (suburban, regional & interstate trains); (2) easy access to local and regional buses, including Skybus to airports; (3) easy access to trams; (4) room was much more spacious than expected, with large table, desk, microwave, comfortable beds; (5) simple restaurant on site. Suggestions for improvements: (1) the bathroom could do with an upgrade, replacing broken or leaky taps; (2) I accepted a lower $ rate for an unserviced room, but I didn't expect to see an unclean bathroom floor and toilet bowl; (3) the self check-in was efficient - but glare on the screen made it difficult to read. (4) my room had adjustable cooling,but apparently no heating, and it was a cold night. Given the room rate, the positives of the location mean that I would go there again for short stays.

Great Southern Hotel Melb CBD
Reception staff were thoughtful, helpful and friendly. Room was smart, clean and comfortable. The only thing that could have been better was that the frig was noisy and didn't stop buzzing all night and the air condition was old and noisy. I had a meal in the dining room attached to the hotel which was delicious. Overall it is a great hotel.

First night there was one thin blanket on the bed, rather than going downstairs I used a BATHROOM TOWEL on my blanket for warmth. AIR CONDITIONING MEANS HEATING in room -which the rooms show is available. One guest in the elevator had a mini heater given by staff UNBELIEVABLE. THE NOISE FROM outside window WAS TERRIBLE too, an engine HUM all night and all day. Most disappointed in noise and no heating for a HOTEL in CBD.
