No window covering in bathroom, mould everywhere, we went to three rooms with same issue, clogged sink and toilet. AC and extra loud bathroom exhaust were on same electrical switch making AC unusable. Bathroom door opens when AC switched on. No latch on bathroom door. Misleading photo of the hotel. Photo on Expedia is of Clevelander Hotel whereas Essex House of Clevlander has no real entrance - entire entrance is covered with construction poles and caution tape with a narrow path to go to the front of the hotel, wait for someone to see you kicking the door (at times several times) before someone would open the door for you. The hotel is under renovation and pest issues along with mouldy rooms and filthy carpets. Worst experience ever and misleading photos of its sister hotel to deceive the public into booking this hotel made it feel like it we were deceived and robbed of not just our money but also the experience.

The property was undergoing renovations, which they had not told us about. When we arrived, our rooms air conditioning did not work, and it took several hours for them to find another room for us. Our daughter and son-in-law‘s room was so loud from the bar next-door they had to sleep with the TV on and then the elevator went out so everyone kept walking back-and-forth right by their room. During the day when they wanted to rest a jackhammer started right outside their room for the renovations. None of this was really acknowledged by the staff. Upon arrival, the first person we dealt with, a young man was so helpful, but from then on no one else was. The location of the property was excellent for walk ability.

The room was clean and suited us fine but there wasn't any indication that the front entrance had scaffolding and tarps from some sort of remodel. Also the description wasn't clear that it was neighboring the Clevlander and not actually the Clevlander.

Not much care has been taken to detail in any type of remodeling or repainting. Very obvious, patchwork and sloppy craftsmanship. Of course the building is old, but shelves installed upside down for example. You can’t beat the location, however. Minutes from the beach, tons of dining nearby. The staff was amazing and the extra touch of beverage coupons and coffee and croissant in the morning were really nice. Great water pressure in the showers. Valley parking is pricey as expected, but the process is confusing. You leave your car and keys with someone entirely before you go inside and get any kind of ticket so it feels very questionable. Not a great place for a quiet night sleep so bring your earplugs and settle in.

Hard time with hotel. Fire alarm battery low went off first night. Told front desk and was told "I'm here alone what do you want me to do about it?" And was then advised to take care of it ourselves but we were too afraid to actuallyset the alarm off. Went back down and reluctantly changed the room. Took two hours and were up at 3am to 5am for that. Then tried to go the pool bar at sister hotel as we were advised to use their facilities and and when i apptoached midnightb the next day i was told "no more food. No go. " even though we were told serving food until 4am. The manager did comp two nights resort fees but as we didn't use the hotel resort options didn't really matter. The manager was nice with drunk tickets and the comp of the resort feees but night clerk and the hotel waiter were unpleasant and very dismissive. Will try a different hotel for next 70k cruise next year.
