The Charm and History of Mobile

This is a great place to stay and enjoy the charm and history of Mobile. Shops, restaurants, bars, historical sites and museums are minutes away whether by car or by walking. The surroundings are beautiful. This is a great location.

AWESOME! Real charm, character and hospitality. Anyone can stay at a cookie cutter hotel chain, but this place is one of a kind. Family owned and operated for multiple generations. You can feel the history as you walk around the property. Plenty of parking and good location within walking distance of restaurants and taverns. Ultra clean. Excellent value. Try it you’ll like it.

This property is completely neglected, dirty, and unsafe from the sheer filth. Our room on the ground floor was so strong with a super heavy mold smell and wood floor appeared to have recurring water damage. To the point, our throats were burning just from breathing in the air. We had our young children with us and if it wasn’t pouring raining I would have slept in the car to protect them from the mold. On top of that, multiple roaches greeted us as we tried to sleep crawling all over the room. Furniture was falling apart, rug was stained, sink didn’t drain, towel holder was falling out the wall. We didn’t even attempt to use the shower because of how dirty the curtain and room in general was. The window in the room was rotten, peeling away like the rafters all over the building’s exterior. No ramp at the curb, door knob at the front door was falling off, column on the upper balcony was rotten, not supporting at all - appearing to be able to fall at any moment. When we first called to confirm our reservation, no one answered the phone and the voicemail box was full. Other than the decent location, this place was our absolute worst lodging experience and are not high-maintenance people. We immediately called our pediatrician out of caution when we left, it was THAT bad. The mold and filth was scarier than the ghost stories.

We like staying at the Malaga Inn because it’s walking distance to venues yet tucked away and quiet. It’s been there awhile but has an ops world charm. Definitely will stay there again.

A period hotel built during the Civil War (which seems a brave business choice!) and has hosted celebrities including Elvis Presley and Ronald Reagan. The hotel is beautifully set out around a courtyard. I'm not sure that there is an elevator, so there may be challenges for people with disabilities or difficulties lifting luggage. When I checked in, reception was being covered by the maintenance man but he was very helpful.

10/10 do not recommend. The front desk receptionist checked us in, in between twitches from whatever she was on, the elevator was broken, there weren’t enough towels in the room, (king suite), for 2 people, & there was one remote between the 2 TV’s in the room & it didn’t work for either of them. When asked, bc the TV in the bedroom of the suite was so loud we couldn’t even carry on a conversation & there was no way to turn it down or off, the receptionist shrugged her shoulders & told us that she didn’t know how to fix the TV’s, she would try to get in touch w someone that did, but basically we were out of luck & she left. After 30 minutes we told her we’d like a refund, she accused us of taking one of the remotes, (there were never 2 in the room & I had told her that when I called regarding the tv to begin with), basically unplugged the tv, & told us that’s all she could do. All the while, clearly on something & unable to fully put a sentence together. They are no refusing a refund bc they didn’t break any policies. 2 TV’s, neither works. A receptionist that is clearly geeked out. Broken elevator. No towels in the room. Being accused of stealing a remote you inquired about as soon as you got in the room but the receptionist is strung o it & doesn’t remember.

My stay was good. The staff was very sweet and they didn’t mind helping walking things to my room. I do wish they had a microwave in the room but other than that I would definitely stay again 😊
