We stayed at the Pontchartrain Hotel in New Orleans in August 2025 for my husband’s birthday, and the experience was extremely disappointing. When we checked in, we were told the previous guests had taken the only key. The hotel doesn’t use digital keys, so staff said an engineer would meet us at our room with a new one. After waiting in the hallway for 15 minutes, another staff member found out the engineer had never even been told to come. He also said he couldn’t make a key that night and we’d have to go to the front desk every time we needed to enter our room. We had no way to secure our belongings and ended up barricading the door with furniture to feel safe. The hotel felt old and a little dirty, and the only compensation offered was a single glass of wine. The next morning, they refused to adjust the bill because we booked through Expedia. Poor communication, lack of security, and the outdated, unkempt condition of the property made this stay one of the worst we’ve had.

Rude desk clerk. When had complaint about property, she reacted by refusing to listen and flipped me managers card. Turned property complaint into a personal thing. Told to move out way. Detected not so subtle racism.

The room was nicely furnished and comfortable. Staff was a little inattentive. Amenities (shampoo, coffee,etc.) were sparse. Great music in the downstairs bar, unfortunately didn’t get to go to the rooftop bc it was closed in the morning and only 21+ when open so my 18 year old son couldn’t go see the view. That was disappointing.

Great stay!

We've stayed at The Pontchartrain Hotel several times, and continue to come back! It's a great option if you want to be a little outside of the French Quarter and has great restaurants, bar, and central location!
