The atmosphere and decor were fun, but the rooms left something to be desired. Pet odor and bugs in first room we were in. Second room, the floor tiles were broken and moved under our feet, and the shower flooded the bathroom with every use, no matter what we tried.

The Ameritania is perfectly located for a visit to New York. Although it doesn't have its own restaurant, there are many dining options within easy walking distance. I recommend Applejack Diner, which is closer to the reception than the restaurants of some hotels I've stayed in. The rooms are quite small, but clean and have everything you'll need. Free coffee in the lobby in the morning was a bonus. Central Park is less than a mile away and there are great links to transport.

Broken air con; broken phone.

The room we stayed in had no working phone so we couldn’t call the front desk when the air conditioning stopped working. They fixed the unit but we couldn’t adjust the temperature and we had to wait for hours in the lobby (where it was freezing!) until they finished. The hotel did nothing for us (well, they offered a glass of house wine). At those prices, we might have been given a credit of some sort. The hotel location is good. Nice restaurants nearby.
