Upon arrival the staff were very pleasant and the lobby was very inviting. Also, the parking garage affiliated with the hotel was great with quick service. The room itself was ok and we had a similar experiences as others - the room had been updated at some point, but it was kind of beat up and there was visible mold in the room (on the ceiling above the bed, in areas where the wallpaper was peeling there was mold underneath, and on the bathroom door frame). I guess we did luck out since the ac and window blinds worked, which others have complained about. The area is wonderful which is a huge draw for this hotel but it’s unfortunate that it’s not maintained better. While my stay wasn’t terrible I probably wouldn’t take my chances at this hotel again.

Wonderful location, great staff, felt safe, nice design. Only complaint was the air conditioning (no matter what we set it at, it stayed 73 in the room). But would definitely stay there again.

Staff was absolutely outstanding from front desk to porters to housekeeping. Great location. Easy walk to Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Old building but well kept. Could use some updates but it was fine. We were happy with our stay. Bed could be a little softer though.

I wasted my money on four crappy nights here. They had to move me to a different room, twice! The towels had HOLES in them, and I think this is where I got ringworm on my trip! I paid for a deluxe king, which cost enough I was expecting a nice room. Well the first room they gave me I couldn’t make it past the door, because there wasn’t room between the bed and the wall to roll my suitcases in. They told me, “ oh, it’s just like that for that room in each floor because of the fire exit” …. Well then don’t call that room “deluxe”!!! The second room had a broken AC unit that reset to 82 degrees every hour. After one sweaty night I complained to the front desk and they said they would have it fixed for me. The second night it was no different. I complained again and they had me pack all my bags to be moved to a THIRD room. That room at least had working AC. All three rooms were a bit dingy, and the towels were all pretty worn out. The pillows were all lumpy. The carpet looks like it is from The Shining. I have no idea who gave this place “4 star hotel” status, but it doesn’t live up to it. I asked for some sort of accommodation be made for all my inconveniences, but never heard anything back from this place. I recommend you AVOID the Empire Hotel unless you like throwing tire money away and have no other options
