Hotel location is perfect and the stuff were great. The room was wide but a bit old. Besides this no complaints

Hidden gem away from the hustle.

Front desk was very welcoming & helpful. Location was great; between Gramercy & Flat Iron, Chelsea is a 3 minute cab ride. Room was very comfortable; king bed and small sitting area. Actually had a view of Lexington Ave and not a building wall. My only negative is, the bathroom was a bit tight. But I’m also a larger man, so bathrooms are normally a bit snug. With that said, the shower had plenty of space

Recently stayed one night at Freehand in NYC as a quick turn around trip. I use to live in NYC and have been to their rooftop bar MANY times. PROS: I really like the vibe of the place--the staff are great, helpful, and attentive. The ambiance is cool, they attract young, hip clientele and where it's situated--23rd and Lex--is a great location, central to everything and right on the 4/5/6 train line. CONS: The rooms are very dimly lit--like, I could barely see in both the main room and the bathroom to put my makeup on. I get that it's a vibe to have lamps and mood lighting but good grief, I was struggling. The thermostat didn't work--it was flashing an error when I arrived so I called down to the desk and told the attendant. He said he would send someone up to address it. I was in my room for 2 hrs before I had to leave for dinner and no one came to fix. When I arrived back to the hotel 3 hrs later, my room was 59 degrees and the thermostat was still flashing error. I called downstairs again and again the attendant said someone would come service it. No one came and I woke up in a 55 degree room with just a thin hotel blanket. My feet were ICE. All in all, my experience is a one off, I'm sure. The hotel is very cool, the staff really is great and the location can't be beat. I will absolutely stay there again but next time, I will back a few extra pairs of socks and a hoodie :)

Very nice property and good location, but even though I was on 12th floor, windows so thin I could hear every ambulance, fire truck and police siren in Manhattan. Couldn't sleep at all. Highly recommend earplugs.

Could have used more cabinets / drawers. Cubbies were nice but not enough for storage of additional clothing. The hotel was trendy and clean.

I love the Freehand. Even though the rooms are small, they have everything necessary for a delightful stay. The decor is surprising, warm, and unique. Its location makes NYC very walkable. And if you don’t want to walk there are always taxis available and the subway station is nearby.

A delightful artistic vibe in rooms. Cozy and clean. Not much shelf space in bathroom but that’s not a dealbreaker. 😊
