Apart from the one girl at the front desk who was very helpful, the rest of the staff were dismissive which was off-putting. Firstly, they put me in a room that faced a brick wall and I had specifically asked for a view. I complained as soon as I was in the room, but they called me back after 1:00 PM the next day (over 12 hours later). The reservations person was rude and wanting to get me off the phone as soon as she could - mono syllabic answers and you could almost hear her tapping her feet because she was so bored talking to me. I was moved to a room on the first floor but I eventually had enough and moved to the Virgin Hotel which was a 10 out of 10. Large rooms, clean and the staff were incredibly helpful and cheerful.
The best part about Hotel Chelsea were the two doormen - Brighton and Tom. They were excellent and were kind and always had smiles on their faces. They recommended dining choices and things to go see if I had time. I had back pain and they recommended a good masseuse which was not far from the hotel and inexpensive. The Hotel was over-priced and a waste of money. The brass in the room and bathrooms was filthy and looked like they had not been polished for a century. There was grime on every brass piece in the room. I guess they can't be bothered to run a clean hotel. The 2 rooms I stayed in were similar dingy spaces and way too dark. I won't ever stay there again yet I'll be back in NYC in a month.
