The St. James is a basic hotel and exactly what we were looking for clean, comfortable and affordable for a one night stay to see a couple of shows and walking distance to restaurant row. The front desk was friendly and accommodating for an early check in.

Love staying here. This place has New York charm. You feel like you have gone back in time. One block off of Times Square so, perfect location. Walk to Central Park or head into Hells Kitchen for dinner and drinks. Looking forward to my next visit.

Very nice. St. James is a pre-War building and has an old-fashioned charm because of it. Very conveniently located, lovely staff, clean rooms that have been suitably modernized, we were happy with our choice. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel, and would definitely stay here again.

The location is great especially if you are looking for a place close to Times Square and Broadway. The hotel itself does not have great amenities and the rooms are very basic but definitely works for people who don’t care about that stuff. I will say the beds could definitely use an upgrade as the mattresses are very hard. After spending 3 nights my hips and back were very stiff. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful which was great.

Staff was very friendly. Hotel was dated (more in some areas than others) but clean. One bed in our room was more comfortable than the other. There are no blackout blinds so bring a sleep mask. This was a very good budget option for the area. All of the other guests were friendly as well, likely because they were travelers who knowingly chose a no-frills hotel. I would stay there again.

Overall, very good. I have recently had replacement surgery in both my hips. Taking a shower in a bathtub with no no-slip mat was a bit troubling. Also, no shampoo in the dispenser. Aside from that, a good stay.
