The Shame of NyC

The imagery used in your online listings is misleading. The elegant lobby featured in promotional photos was entirely inaccessible during our stay, yet no clarification was provided prior to booking. There was loud and disruptive construction both inside and outside the building, including on our floor, something not disclosed at the time of booking. One of our rooms had no functioning electricity at all. We had to speak to multiple staff members before anyone addressed it, and even then, the issue was not resolved promptly. As a result of this failure, we were forced to separate from our minor niece, who had to be moved to another room alone- an incredibly stressful and inappropriate situation for a family traveling together. The hallways, especially near our door, smelled strongly of urine. It was unclear whether the smell was due to poor sanitation or an actual incident, but either way, it was revolting and deeply embarrassing. Several public restrooms were out of service, which compounded the discomfort of our group. Throughout our stay, we were made to feel like second- or third-class guests This experience was a far cry from what I once valued about The Jane. It is unacceptable for any guest, let alone one hosting visitors from abroad and relying on your hotel to provide a welcoming, professional environment. Given the severe and numerous issues we encountered, I am requesting a full refund for our stay.

No Frills for the Win!

You can think of this as a no-frills experience. It provides a good (but very small) bed, a robe and towels/wash cloths. Once you figure out how it works- a mini adventure- there are a fan and air conditioner as well. At the time I stayed there, they were renovating so night time was no problem, but a nap during the day was only possible with ear plugs and white noise. The staff was polite and knowledgeable.

Don’t Stay Here

I wish to complain in the strongest terms about The Jane. The description is totally misleading and as a woman I feel very unsafe staying at the hotel. The place is under construction as they have taken away all the hotel amenities and are in the process of opening a member’s club in the building. There is a nightclub which now adjoins my floor which you can hearing raging away. There are random strangers walking up and down my floor, presumably staff from the club. It is noisy and filthy. The WiFi doesn’t work in my room. I have travelled all over the world back packing and this is the worst accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. It is absolutely revolting. There are tiles missing from the showers and dirt on the floor, the carpet looks about 40 years old and as I said, I feel my safety is very much compromised. As a woman travelling alone, I’ve never felt this before (and I’ve travelled by myself throughout Asia, India, South America and Africa). The final insult is the price.

A tragic devolution of this historic hotel. Lobby and amenities are gone. Bathrooms are dilapidated more reminiscent of a seedy hotel. Bring sandals! Bring water! I was asked to leave my room to relocate to replace carpets the second day of my three day stay. I have stayed here for 20 years and this will be my last.

The property is historic and pretty however they have modernised the front entrance in a diy over stock storage for the club next door. However one gets a sense of nosey housekeeping. There was a dried booger on my robe. Perhaps they should focus on those details. Generally you are treated as an inmate in 'gen pop' when you stay in fhe hostel end of their hotel. Drink machine ? Snack machine ? Coffe set out in the morning? NO. And no stores for many blocks as this is a residential neighborhood. The price should be much lower. Especially considering the constant booming / shaking / the whistles and the fog horns going off ALL day.
