I chose this hotel because it was so close to public transportation to get into NYC and it was exactly what I was looking for. Getting to the train station was very easy. The room was clean and nice. bathrooms are important to me and the bathroom was clean.

Horrible Experience

This was the absolute worst hotel experience I have ever had. I never even got to stay there. Our family arrived at the hotel around 2:30pm on July 13th, aware that we were too early to check in, but went to check and to leave our bags. We were told that they wouldn’t be checking anyone in until well after the 4pm check in time. We arrived back at the hotel at 10pm that night and there was a big line up of people that told us that they had been waiting there for over an hour. A few of the people waiting ended up booking different hotels as we waited and left. In the meantime I found out their server was down, but others had been checked into rooms that had not been cleaned, so they were back waiting for clean bedding. The hotel staff completely ignored all of us, and hid in the back. Would not give us any updates, or even acknowledge anyone. After waiting for two hours (over 3 for some) they finally started checking people in. At this point, I was now 3rd in line after many had left. I was then told that they did not have a room left with two queen beds, that I had booked and paid for, and that they could not accommodate me. After waiting there for two hours, myself, my husband, and two kids had to get on the train to get back to Manhattan at 12:15pm to go find another hotel!!!! I was also informed, I would still be charged and would have to contact Expedia to try and get a refund. I will never book this hotel again, or recommend! Still appalled at the lack of service.

This is definitely not a four star hotel. At best, it deserves two stars, if that. The bathtub was dirty and stained, and the carpet throughout the entire hotel was filthy and badly stained. The elevators are old and unclean, and there was a dingy smell throughout the hotel. The light-skinned front desk agent should consider another job because she was neither friendly nor welcoming, and she acted as though checking us in was a burden. The hotel is close to Penn Station and within walking distance of the Prudential Center, which was convenient for the concert we attended. Just about twenty feet from the entrance there is a row of homeless people sleeping. The only other positives were the helpful and friendly security guard and the surprisingly comfortable bed, which, given how terrible the hotel was, I am amazed did not have bed bugs. I strongly advise against staying here unless you are comfortable with dirty conditions in a questionable area.

Hotels.com Fails to Meet Its Mission

(After Hotels.com wanted the review revised here is the (awkwardly worded) revision. Hotels.com's mission is to make travel effortless and enjoyable and that was not the case here. After we had booked an Airbnb that fell through one particular evening here in July around midnight we booked 2 rooms through Hotels.com for a couple of days that we needed immediately. Unfortunately, the reservations actually begin at 3pm later that day (not the morning hours of said day here in July). We showed up at the hotel around 1am and realized the mistake. We were willing to book 2 rooms but the particular hotel was sold out and we were informed to contact Hotels.com to cancel the reservation, which the hotel wasn't able to do because we had booked through Hotels.com. We notified Hotels.com immediately but they weren't able to connect with the venue and so we were charged for 2 nights for 2 rooms that we did not use. I attempted to connect with the hotel and they referred us back to Hotels.com. In short, we got the run-around and Hotels.com failed to meet its mission of making things effortless (including posting this review).

Property is right across the street from the Newark Penn Station. Our group had easy access to New York City. Room was simple, but clean. Beds were comfortable. Only recommendation would be to inform or remind customers that breakfast is not included. During check in they pointed to the breakfast area and provided times. I assumed breakfast was included since receptionist provided directions and times. At the time of check out there were three groups of families that had to pay a breakfast charge of over 100. Mind you breakfast was just your regular continental breakfast. The breakfast was served cafeteria style with a waitress only providing drinks. At time of signing charge to my card, waitress returned subliminally asking for a tip. I provided a small tip for my orange juice and coffee.

This is 1 start hotel. It’s like Motel dirty place. Lot homeless outside. Homeless that’s fine not the hotel problem. But Hotel, it’s very dirty they doesn’t change the sheets where I sleep on desk I wait one hour 35 minutes to check sucks I am not recommended to anybody don’t waste your time in your money smells so bad I have a couple pictures also.

Great location to commute to NYC Front desk service is excellent. Iron bound restaurants nearby are world class. Room looked nice enough. Bathroom was a little small. House keeping not the best The bathtub had stains. Would not take a bath in it. We see that they do not do a good job vacuuming. We never ate in the room but there were crumbs on the floor in a few places. Stayed for two nights. Came back the 1st night and house keeping never cleaned the room. Front desk got someone up to clean in 15 minutes. The air conditioner was not working properly and created unwanted humidity in the room.
