Great stay in downtown Newcastle, NSW

From our friendly and efficient check in to our quick checkout our stay at Holiday Inn Express Newcastle was memorable in a positive way. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast provided a tasty variety with appetising food suitable for a wide range of dietary selections. A standout feature was the efficiency of all staff we encountered.

I was given room 632 . It wasn’t until I came back to this room after I had been to the concert late that night that I realised the door didn’t lock . If you pushed on the door it would open from the hall way. I had been up since 3am to get my flight from Brisbane so the last thing I wanted was to have to pack up and move rooms. I put two chairs and the ironing board across the door to limit the access if someone pushed the door and realised they could get in. I had a restless night because of this. Also i question if the room had been cleared properly as there were cans still in the rubbish bin, which I took photos of. The next morning I spoke to a male at reception regarding the door issue. I went to breakfast After breakfast he came to me and said that they knew about the door of this room not locking and having an issue but unfortunately I was given the key card to this room by mistake- I actually should have been in room 631. He apologised and said that he would get someone to ring me. Well I’m still waiting for the call . Obviously very poor communication between your reception staff. I paid over $300.00 for the night and I feel it’s a disgrace I was booked into a room which was known to have a door that didn’t lock. I feel a refund is warranted. Worse still is that no one from your motel chain has bothered to contact me . Very poor service. Regards Joyann Swann 0439 406 858

Interesting new hotel in West End of Newcastle. No hassle booking and parking ($20 per day). Walk to supermarket (across park) or down to harbour walk. . Room was clean & quiet. Breakfast included being standard hotel fare but good. Will stay again.

Room is good though quirk of the shower door also being the bathroom door takes a bit of getting used to. Location is excellent if needing access to train or light rail as it is not far to walk from Newcastle Interchange. Marketown shops are nearby as well. Not sure who's fault it is but when the listing says free parking, apparently this is across the street after 5pm weekdays or after 12pm Saturday (ie. outside metered parking times). Otherwise it is $20 per day for secure parking on premises.

Clean and comfortable room with excellent breakfast included - one of the better included hotel breakfasts I've had. Lots of variety of breakfast foods, including a lot of fresh food.
