Not worth the price- better options close by

I am giving 2 stars to ensure my review is not immediately discarded as a disgruntled customer. Our room had at least 12 plugs that did not work. There were 2 working plugs and one working USB, none of which were in the bathroom, that we rotated through 11 devices. The toilet was chipped and old, the shower drain was clogged, the sheets were old to the point of losing elasticity, the tv was old and took an extended period of time to log on and click through Netflix. The closed captions didn't work. The view was the worst view I've ever had of a power plant. I felt like I stepped from a room in 2025 (Durham) to a room that hadn't been updated or upkept since 2010 (Norfolk). Background/ Comparison April 21-25, 2025, I stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Dunham. I had an amazing stay, and I really enjoyed the in-house cafe, the rotating TV, the room setup with a cool couch, and the fun hidden refrigerator. There were more plugs than I could use, and I carry ALL my electronics. I had such a great experience I changed my hotel for my graduate school graduation in Norfolk from the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel to Courtyard by Marriott Norfolk downtown May 8-11, 2025.

Poorly maintained!

The furniture was in poor condition. Furniture was extremely worn. The bedside table drawer had small nails sticking out from something that had broken off. It jabbed my thumb when I opened it. There was only one very worn desk chair for a table/desk in the room which allowed 3 adults. The pull out sofa bed again very worn. Bathroom tub needs to be resurfaced as it had permanent black stains. The towels were so thin they were almost threadbare and the same with the bed linens. Carpet needs to be replaced (vacuumed well but shampooing) would not get the appearance of permanent soiling out. The best part is the valet customer service. Valet parking expensive at $25 per day.

Tis property was very close to the conference hotel and was very affordable. We only stayed one night and then moved to the conference hotel but if I could not have gotten a room there, this would have been very helpful. Many at the conference stayed here as it was booked. I did not know the area well and this was a last minute booking to get in town early. It is an older hotel but very clean and comfortable with WiFi.

This hotel needs help. The carpet on the sleeping room floor where I stayed is filthy. The bathroom is outdated (caulking needed asap). The staff is overworked and undertrained. Choosing this hotel was a mistake!

Liked the location of Hotel; walkable to downtown and venues. Commons area good. Valet parking good and that staff very friendly and helpful. Reserved king room with sitting area but said oversold so got 2 Queens no comfortable sitting area. Hotel old and well used. Needs updates. Check in staff pleasant but gave no info about what to expect or area. Amenities were none; except water. Housekeeping every other day then only changed towels and made bed. A lot of noise inside. 3 ice machines in hotel but only 1 was working. Would not recommend staying here.

Has the potential to be a great property with an amazing downtown location. Bartender was more interested in talking to his friends then drive me drinks I payed for.
