Lovely old central hotel
Stayed a couple of nights in a superior room which was large with comfy bed. Lovely old building so there are stairs and corridors in a random fashion. There is no dining room & we chose to eat out for a cooked breakfast at one of the many local cafes.. It's in a very central location off a main road, so quiet. We got the train to Oxford & it was walkable from the station.

The initial room I was offered was room 4. There was enough noise from a nearly bar to be disturbing. The staff were able to move to another room but this might not have been possible.

Wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of Oxford. Quality amenities provided - biscuits, drinks, toiletries etc were a really nice touch. Easy access to train station, food and main sights. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Fantastic location in an historic inn
The Vanbrugh House is wonderfully located in the center of historic Oxford. Short walking distance to all the colleges, restaurants, bus station. A little longer but easy walk to train station. Cool historic building. Our family rented 3 rooms: 2 smaller ones and a larger "superior double". All were fine. The superior room was especially large, even by US standards (although the bathroom and shower were tiny). My only negative was that all the beds were pretty uncomfortable. Really hard mattresses. Otherwise this was a five-star experience and (even with that) we would be inclined to stay again.

The location was terrific and staff very helpful but all three rooms had mattressesthat were very hard and need replacing the superior twin had a tiny shower with a broken door

Absolutely one of the best stays we have had in Oxford. We’ve traveled here several times and this property is very well situated but the best part is the amazing staff! Absolutely go out of their way to make you happy and comfortable any time of the day or night. Already booked another stay!

Really nice place to stay. It's a bit worn out so a few touch ups here and there would really be of benefit, for example loose toilet roll holders, radiators etc... Our room did no have a minifridge, even though one of the staff said it would, and there was no remote for the dyson airheater, so we did end up asking the reception staff more questions than needed

Cosy room in beautiful hotel
Such a lovely building the room we had was an upgrade and had a little garden we were on the lower floor. We felt so cosy comfy bed and will recommend this to others.

Vanbrugh House is a very interesting period property to stay in but I couldn’t really call it a hotel, more luxury serviced rooms and suites. We were upgraded from superior double to a suite so I shouldn’t complain, but for a 4 star hotel many of the little touches weren’t there - eg no glasses for water in the room, missing remote control for the fan heater, only enough Nespresso pots for 2 drinks each.

The hotel is really conveniently located in Oxford within easy walking distance to the shop. The hotel room size was very generous and comfortable, we stayed in the superior double room, which was located at the front of the hotel. The hotel is located on a street which includes various student bars. unfortunately, the night we stayed, our sleep was so badly interrupted by the noise coming from the students, which didn’t die down until 3am, which spoilt our stay. I appreciate this is outside the control of the hotel, but I wouldn’t stay here again due to this.
