Expect To Be On You’re Own
The building is very historic room was nice and big, but other than this, there’s not much to recommend about this place. The front desk doesn’t open until noon (or sometimes later, no advanced warning on that), and if you need anything during the non-open Times, they give you a phone number to call. We noticed that there were no towels in the room, so I had to call that number since no one was around that morning. I got them pretty quickly, I suspect someone from their sister property, the much nicer Sadie’s By The Sea, brought them over. There is no reception on Sundays, non although they were supposed to open at noon on Saturday, there were two travelers sitting outside with their bags who were told by the cook (the only employee on the property) that reception opened at three. As for housekeeping, forget about it. We got bare bones service once, probably because our Samoan friend “lit a fire” under them. We weren’t totally shocked by all of this, as since we used to live here, we know this is “Fa’a Samoa”, the Samoan way. I think the first two nights, we were the only guests here. How this place survives, especially with times with no staff available to sell rooms to walkups, I don’t know. Seriously, a person could die in the room and it could be a few days before anyone would know. Not nearly worth the $100 a night - definitely opt for the nearby Sadie’s By The Sea instead.

Be forewarned. The first room I was given (309) was infested with roaches. The second (311) had a couple of small ones. There were Raid cans in each, so the problem is known to management/staff. I used it frequently, including over my bags which I kept zipped up at all times when not retrieving items from them, and toughed it out since I was only staying a few days.

The hotel staff and restaurant were very nice. The room was a bit dated but comfortable. However the bed was a bit stiff and the AC did not work. It would shut off after 5 minutes and was not real strong when it was on. The heat was unbearable. After switching to Sadie’s by the sea I slept so much better

One day I was in the tub and started showering when a hotel staff (male), entered my restroom. My room was locked and restroom door closed. I am a female and I was naked. The staff stood by my door and told me to shut off the water because there was a leak downstairs (the restaurant). I was shocked. Covered myself with my hands and said, OK. I was traumatized and could not say anything else. I sat in the restroom for some time until I gathered some strength to finish showering. I called the receptionist and they said they had been knocking. I was in the bath with music on. I did not hear anything. Because I did not respond, the receptionist gave the master key and instructed the male staff to enter my room. I called some friends who called the owner the next day. The incident was not reported to him. He promised to investigate and help me move out of the hotel. A few days later, no messages, no apologies. No help at all. I locked myself in the hotel for days and went back late to avoid making any physical contact with the staff. I felt so violated. A few days later the IT personnel reached out to me. He heard from a friend whom I shared the story with. He investigated and noted that it was a restaurant staff who entered my room. The receptionist just handed him the key. But the owner did not even investigate because he did not tell the IT staff - since he can view security cameras. Obviously, the owner and management did not care.

Comfortable room. Decor is dated.
I made 2 separate bookings so we stayed in 2 different rooms. The bed was comfortable and the room tidy. TV has lots of channels to choose from. Restaurant was great. The decor is dated and the room above the bar is noisy. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I'd stay here again.

Dated decor but comfortable.
I made 2 separate bookings so we were moved into a new room on the 2nd night. The rooms were very similar. Firstly, the decor is dated. But as a place to stay it's perfectly OK. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioner is new and worked well. Amenities such as tea, coffee, cold water in the fridge were fine. The cable TV has plenty of channels. The wifi access was a little disappointing. Very, very slow but unlimited access. OK for email but not much else. But that just meant more time for relaxing! The hotel restaurant was very good. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The noise from the bar below one of the rooms was a bit loud. It was a good place to stay.

We will be back.
The hotel stay was really nice and quiet. Its not 24/7 so there was no one at the desk overnight, but there was staff at the sister hotel in the next village. The staff left the ac on for us so the room was cool, but the bed area wasn't as cool as we would like. The bed was too soft for me, but it was spacious and clean and the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel at home.

Great staff did the best they could.
There are not a lot of choices for places to stay in American Samoa near the convention center. Sadie Thompson is adequate for a place to stay. There will be bugs, air conditioning that doesn't work and possibly loud music from the bar, but the front desk staff will really try hard to make your stay as nice as they can. They tried hard to fix my AC and moved me to another room when they couldn't get it done right away. With no ceiling fans, the rooms get hot very quickly if your AC doesn't work. As far as the bugs go, there is a can of bug spay in the closet and you just have to accept that it is the tropics and there will be bugs. Ask for a room away from the bar to avoid the loud music.

Convenient location for Pago,
Have to go to breakfast at Sadie's by the sea as no breakfast at Sadies' Inn. A morning stroll. The staff recognised me from a previous visit and were quite helpful getting taxi for my walk. Loo didn't work on last night which could have been a problem as there is no where else to go as locked in on floor, unless you go outside. Rooms are named after characters in Rain and the stars of the movie. Food was nice but I was hungry after the Vatia to Fagasa Pass walk. It's $20 from airport to hotel. Wish TV there were more TV choices, stuck with the History channel and counting cars reruns.

Everything worked,
My room didn't have a view but was ok, good shower and bed. The coffee was awful (but that's just Americans like it weak) and the iron was a bit dodgy. Would be good to get a manual with TV. The best room to ask for is the Miss Sadie Thompson room. I slept well, plenty of towels and soap etc. The staff were helpful and it's central to buses and museums and National park Office. Walk to breakfast at sadie's by the sea past wharf and port, easy to do. Near Tedis of Samoa and several banks and supermarkets. Food at both Sadie's was fine but such large helpings, even the entrees were main course size

They will NOT leave the light on!
The info for the hotel does not include the fact that the front desk is closed at midnight. Not a good thing if your flight is delayed (and the two main flights do get in at 11:30PM). The front desk is also closed on the weekends! When you call or try to get derive during those off times you are connected with the sister hotel several blocks away.

Inefficient and Ineffective
Sadie Thompson Inn was perhaps the worst hotel we stayed during our trip. The front desk did not have anyone for two days ( (on Jan.1 and Jan.2, 2017) (in fact it was completely closed) and they did not leave any number to call in case of an emergency. Our bath-room did not have hot water, and we were asked to take a shower in another room. The location is OK- nothing to boast about. Most ineffectively and inefficiently run hotel. The air conditioner remote did not work- we found out that they forgot to change the battery (why not check the working condition of all the appliances in the room before asking the guess to occupy the room?). Too much money for too little benefits (services).

An unique Samoan experience with friendly staff
If you like a comfortable room for the night and a very friendly Samoan staff you will enjoy your stay at the Sadie Thompson Inn. The staff went out of their way to more helpful than the average big box chain hotel and the original artwork in the halls was well worth the visit.
