Pros: Decent clean pool and hot tub. The restaurant attached had good drinks for the pool. The hotel staff was nice and helpful. Location was about a six minute drive to downtown so conveniently located. AC worked well. Seemed safe. Cool retro vibe. Big TV. Quiet atmosphere. Cons: The bathroom window didn’t lock and lead to an alley. We shoved a clothes hanger in it to keep someone from opening it from the outside. There were cobwebs in the bathroom window and shower. The carpet has a lot of stains and wasn’t vacuumed well. There’s been water damage and mold in a couple spots in our room and bathroom. Housekeeping picked our dirty towels up off the bathroom floor and hung them back up instead of supplying new ones. We had to call to get fresh ones. The treadmill doesn’t work and the gym was very hot. Beds and pillows aren’t very comfortable. There wasn’t an iron or ironing board. Probably a cool place at one time but I wouldn’t star again. The price is right but there were better options in the area for similar prices. If our room hadn’t been non refundable we probably would’ve changed locations.

This property is really in need of a deep cleaning, the place is really showing its age. The toilet ran all the time, the fridge didn't close, the smoke detector wasn't functioning and was never looked after. If you are looking for a dirty inexpensive place to stay, highly recommend it!

Caliante Tropical is an old motel in need of a full renovation in the rooms. The pool area is nice and the on site Mexican restaurant has great food. Front desk and housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful but I would not recommend this place to friends.

We had an amazing time visiting family for Thanksgiving and absolutely loved our stay! The only downside was that the room didn't match the one pictured on Expedia's website. Be sure to double-check the room details when booking. Despite this minor issue, we were sad to leave and would definitely recommend.

Property was very nice, some things needed attention but overall a nice location and fun atmosphere. Ice isn't available until after 8am, so ice up your drinks if traveling the night before.

Over Priced Motel 8
I was traveling and needed a place to stay and exercise since I'd be on the road all day. I looked at many hotels in the area and chose this one because the gym looked decent. Most hotels don't have much exercise equipment. The gym was terrible. All the cardio equipment was broken. It was carpeted and smelled like it had never been vacuumed. The ice machine was in the room, so it generated heat and the smell of ozone. I understand that most people don't care about the gym, but that's why I chose this place. I could've gone to a Super 8. And that's all this place is. It's a dumpy motel. Don't let the tiki stuff fool you. I'm sure it's fun when it's packed, and people are partying at the pool, but there are better and cheaper places to stay in Palm Springs if you only want a room. My experience with the big attractions, the heated pool and hot tub, wasn’t much better. I walked to them to find a drunk guy mumbling to himself. He could barely walk. Was he over-served? Did anyone check on him? He laid there, feet dangling in the hot tub, saddling talking to himself. The manager was supposed to call me and never did. Oh and mattress felt like it was purchased in the mid century. I have a bad back and this place did everything it could to prevent from doing my physical therapy and getting a good nights sleep.

I really like older hotels and this one has character and a fun tiki theme. The lobby and entrance has a really cool vintage design, parking was easy, and the pool area is really nice. Also great to have a restaurant and tiki bar on site. However, we had some issues with noise and just some basics of hospitality that would make me think twice about staying here again. We checked in on a weekday after a 10 hour drive and the hotel was pretty empty. Around 6pm the walls to our room started shaking due to some construction they were doing on the room next door, jolting us from a nap. I have no idea why the hotel staff, with a nearly empty hotel, decided to put us right next to that room but it was jarring. I called the front desk and was assured the noise would stop "soon" or they could move us. That's great but why put us there in the first place with so many other rooms to choose from? It was a stupid decision on their part. Fast forward to the next morning, I'm in the shower and go to get shampoo from the in-shower dispenser, nothing; conditioner, nothing; soap, nope. I was in a hurry and didn't have time for two showers so just dealt with it. This hotel is nice but their staff is just not paying attention and missing the mark on some really basic hospitality things, like putting customers in quiet/restful rooms and shampoo. With so many lodging options in Palm Springs, I would tend to look elsewhere next time despite wanting to support a smaller and older hotel.
