The Criterion has not been upgraded for decades for this reason alone it is not good value for money It smells mouldy and all facilities are ancient. The walls are paper thin and mattresses very soft with blankets instead of doonahs. They actually take out a $250 bond out of your account instead of a ‘hold’ so you have to make sure when you leave that you check your card has all the correct details with them to reimburse. It is close to train station and centre of town but there are some unsavoury characters and places nearby. It’s only saving grace was their cleaners do a magnificent job considering how old everything is.

This hotel was perfect for the stay I needed. Affordable and within the city. The staff were quite helpful also! Our only issue had nothing to with the hotel or its staff but noisy neighbours! The building is quite dated and rooms are definitely not sound proof so you hear every sound. Thanks!

It’s cheap and you get what you pay for My second overnight stay a different room, a room that was a connecting room the people in there were very loud it was as if they were in my room with me I rang the front desk 4 times with no answer I went down nobody was there it wasn’t quiet 9pm yet The hotel is extremely worn out the staff are unfriendly they are there just doing their job and that’s it The room was clean and that’s it

There was a matress in the foyer where the male receptionist obviously slept. Although the cost for the overnight stay was deducted from my credit card, when I checked in, I was required to pay a $200 dollar bond!!!! Never encountered anything like that in any hotel I have ever stayed at!
