This is a good value as far as the price but definitely a dated hotel with furnishings that don’t seem like they have been updated since the 1980s. The staff is very friendly and professional and helpful. The first room I was given had a really strong scent of air freshener/ perfume. If you’re sensitive to chemicals this is not the place to stay. They moved me to another room with a balcony that had more fresh air but the door to the balcony did not lock. There is some construction around the hotel so it’s not super easy to access but is close ti the subway and a lovely area of old town. I would not personally stay again. But for 2 nights it was an inexpensive good deal which is what I needed for this trip.

We stayed in the river view king room with patio and I loved it. Sitting out on the patio looking at the river was so peaceful. The room was so cute! It was cozy and comfortable with the fireplace and jacuzzi tub. My only complaint is, I did take advantage of the tub while there and one of the jets kept popping off. My husband and I really enjoyed our stay and definitely will be returning.

Really loved our stay at Penn's View Hotel. Amazing to stay in the historic neighborhood that is an easy walk to everywhere we wanted to go in Philly, including all forms of public transit. The room was roomy and exceptionally clean. The staff were wonderfully helpful. Will stay here again.

Great authentic hotel. Ask for a room at the back as traffic noise from I95 is constant at the front. No breakfast. Comfy room with great shower and whirlpool bath. Bins for recycling would be helpful.

Good location near SEPTA. However, the staff wasn't amazing. I waited 15 minutes to check in because they were more concerned with whoever was on the phone than with the customer standing right in front of them. Also, they told me they had coffee and muffins until a certain time, I arrived before that time, and everything was gone. That was frustrating. Otherwise, its sufficient, but I won't be staying here again.

Penn's View Hotel might be worth a look.

The hotel is old and small. The lobby is quite small. There is only one elevator. Room keys are actual keys. If you keep the age in mind, it has charm. The staff is excellent and the restaurant and bar are surprisingly good. It is not in the best of neighborhoods and the traffic noises can be bothersome. The neighborhood shows signs of improvement. Some of the architecture is lovely. Bathrooms are not easy for anyone with mobility issues.

Historic details

Hotel location is right near freeway but it is still in a beautiful, historic area—just on the edge of it. Hotel is wonderfully quirky. Bar is great with really nice cocktails. Our room had many historic touches including a gorgeous old brick wall. Staff were excellent.

The on-site restaurant and bar saved our trip. The room was stated to have a Juliette balcony which was nothing more than a shotty door standing over the parking lot that was sketchy in safety structure. Upon arrive I knew we would not be getting the “lit bridge view as we were in the second floor. Because we booked through a third party they were not willing to move the room.
