Favorite Hotel in Phnom Penh

This is our favorite hotel to stay at when we are in Phnom Penh. For the cost. We have stayed here several times. I recommend booking a room overlooking the Royal Palace. Convenient location, walking distance to a lot of places. Take a river cruise for only $2 if you Negotiate.

What a difference a week makes

Stayed here last week and it was quite lovely--front desk staff was almost obsequious in their friendliness, the gift shop was well stocked, and the restaurant crew was attentive. This time around, the front desk staff was almost desultory, the anemic air conditioner was no match for the 35C heat, and the attempts at "fixing" it were handled by a friendly young man who knew deep down there was no fix. The rooftop bar staff was clearly bored, and the next morning, the breakfast was equally disappointing. Not sure what happened during the week.... Also, the rooms heat up very quickly, so if you leave during the day (since the key card uses an embedded chip to turn on the electricity and the A/C), expect to come home to a sauna. Otherwise, still a great location and an interesting old building, a throwback to the 1970s-80s.

Great location, many sites walking distance- Royal Palace, National Museum of Cambodia, wat Ounalom. Many restaurants, street food vendors, massage places, laundry places few steps walk from hotel. Convenience store and pharmacy few steps from hotel. Safe area. Nice view from terrace. Nice swimming pool on the terrace. Comfortable, quiet room, comfortable bed. All amenities worked well including air-condition. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice breakfast. We enjoyed our stay. Will stay here again.

The location is unbeatable! The restaurant staff is nice and they have a great breakfast. The room we stayed in was also great. However, the male receptionist was obnoxious and even tried to downgrade our room telling us there was a leak and later telling us the seventh floor had a similar balcony which is just a flat out lie. The seventh floor balconies are tiny. The one we reserved and had already confirmed our reservation for a week earlier, called twice for that day... had a huge corner balcony with sitting chairs and a jacuzzi. Why wouldn't someone have mentioned this.."leak" ... anytime prior. Never imagined that a person working the front desk at a hotel could be so unfriendly and LIE at least once (about the balcony) and probably twice (about the leak) in the 15 minutes we were forced to interact with him. When we began to get angry, he changed his story about the leak and said we could check in at 2 which turned into 2:15 because they "were cleaning the room." We had called twice about checking in earlier (noon is the time listed on Expedia). He was entirely unfriendly and unhelpful. The kind of person that should never be in any kind of position that deals directly with the public. Never smiled once. BTW, once we finally checked in, there were NO signs of any leaks anywhere. But who knows? Maybe I missed it? I still gave it a good ratiing. Fantastic location and the rest of the staff was quite friendly, especially the restaurant staff.

The only benefit to this hotel is its location and roof top restaurant and pool. The hotel has not been maintained over the years. It’s worn down, the beds are in poor condition, the shower leaks, and you’ll be lucky to have wifi access. Breakfast options were limited and at times the main food (not the fruit or bread) didn’t appear until after 7:00/7:15. Breakfast supposedly starts at 6:30. Don’t bother with a hotel sponsored tuktuk as they charge more and one attempted to take us to an upscale restaurant after he suggested a food stall, clearly hoping to make a commission. He was not happy after we walked out and said we weren’t going to dine where he took us. The only reliable wifi is in the lobby. We stayed four nights and most often didn’t have any wifi in our rooms - 3rd, 5th, and 6th floors. If you need reliable wifi access or prefer comfort, there are many newer hotels for the same price. This was my 3rd or 4th time to stay in a ten year span and this will be my last visit. If you use the skybar and create a tab, make sure you check it carefully. We had extra items put on our bill. They were removed but without an apology. The staff actually said we hadn’t paid for things the day before, we I hadn’t checked the tab but signed. The only rooms that are worth it are the ones overlooking the palace. It’s a shame they’ve let what used to be a nice hotel fall apart like they have.

Room was clean but needs decorating. No furniture in the very small balcony which we had to pay £15 per night extra for it. Very small crawling insects all over my husbands tablets which were in a tablet box which we didn't realise until we were leaving the hotel at 6 am so didn't see anyone to complain. Loved phnom Penh. Turn right out if hotel, then right again and about 20m there's a little restaurant called three rivers, lovely food, reasonable and the waiter poly was lovely
