Huge, aging hotel

We wanted a place with an outdoor pool to have some R&R time while visiting Pittsburgh. The hotel was so large and so busy that when my wife went to sit by the tiny pool (in the shade of the surrounding tower blocks!) It was packed with people, noisy and not that clean. The reception clerk seemed clueless. The a/c was blasting on full when we got to the room (such a waste of energy and freezing cold), although the room itself was quite comfortable. The windows were filthy though. Didn’t have breakfast as it's an extra charge, but looked distinctly average. Only plus is that we could check out after two of our three booked nights.

Our overall stay at the Doubletree was good. Great staff, for breakfast and dinner. But the hot water in our 2 rooms that we had booked, the did not get hot, water was always luke warm, even after running the water for a while. This was disappointing after a long day to have to take a cool shower.

The room was very nice and clean. Daily maid service did not replace used glasses and towels. no microwave and no menus for room service or ordering outside. Coffee bar opened too late in the morning. No true directory for on site food if it existed.
