Safety is a concern, someone stole my towels and the only response I got was , they will charge $25 dollars each, so if you leave something while in the pool and someone stole it they are not responsible. Not safe place

The property is huge, with scenic paths that wind between the various pools, restaurants, and other buildings. It almost feels like exploring a small village instead of a bland resort. If you aren't up to walk a quarter mile to the beach there are shuttles constantly running but we enjoyed the walk and tried to take a different route every time. There is a lot of wildlife; deer, agoutis, and coati; plus iguanas and tropical birds. There are even flamingos next to one of the pools, and a trained hawk to keep seagulls at bay. The beach is in a small lagoon so there is no seaweed/sargassum and no rough waves. It's really ideal for playing in the water, with fish flitting about, although there is no surf. I thought the restaurants were fine, and it was pretty easy to get reservations. The servers were all great. The dress code isn't quite as strict as it says. Men don't need long sleeves and pants, nicer shorts and a collared shirt is fine. I do wish they would provide a cocktail menu, or up the cocktail game in general. The bad- one of the pool areas had no running water, so the showers as well as the bathrooms weren't running. But people were still trying to use the restrooms and it got gross very quickly. The fridge in our room didn't work, they fixed it but it wasn't until midway through our second day and I am surprised we had to ask at all. Our room also had no hair dryer. Small things but I would think it would get checked before putting someone in the room.

This is my third stay at this property. It has changed drastically in the last few years losing it’s charm from before. The Expedia special is nothing but a sales pitch. One of the sales agents told us that the Expedia VIP rate is a joke within their staff. They call it a VIP treatment but all it is is just that a name there is NO VIP. We stayed in a room that had toilet issues for four straight days, until they supposedly upgraded us, to a very dumpy dirty room. The staff around transportation only cater to the folks in the upscale buildings. They are rude and they don’t wait for the regular guests. The only plus to this hotel is that it has a direct entrance into xcaret. I will not be staying here again. Upon arrival I was hit with an additional $1000 charge because my daughter wasn’t charged as an adult even though she’s a child. I used to love this hotel but I would not recommend it.

So me a my bf stayed at the occidental Armando at the front desk checked us in and was amazing he got us an amazing room it had two beds and we were close to the lobby and from our room the monkeys would swing in these big trees right by our balcony. It was a beautiful hotel the only thing was like bathrooms by the pools will get really badly dirty and I would have to go back to my room to use the bathroom the service was all amazing I personally didn’t really like all the food the snack bars was not my thing it just wasn’t the buffet I was expecting so definitely don’t have high expectations of the food we went and made reservations for the streak house and Mediterranean and both were really good just make sure you go and make it one night ahead bc they fill fast. Now the main buffet at breakfast there everyday and our amazing server went out and about always on our last day he made us a surprise chocolate covered strawberries with a nice note in chocolate saying have a good trip the most sweetest person ever made me not want to leave. The food I will say was good breakfast they have a egg station the chef had always a smile and was so fast best omelets ever. Lunch was good too better than the snack bars I feel like bc there is way more variety and dinner they would change it up from seafood to tacos to others and we got to enjoy some of that which was really good. Let’s not forget the house keeping they always did an amazing job everyday like clock work. Amazing staff ❤️

The natural surroundings of this resort are truly beautiful, but unfortunately the experience is ruined by the staff. They are unprofessional, rude, and unhelpful. Nobody answers the phone when you call, and there is no greeting or sense of hospitality from the moment you arrive. For an all-inclusive resort, the service is far below expectations. It’s a shame such a beautiful location is managed so poorly—hopefully a reputable hotel chain takes over one day and trains the staff properly to match the quality of the setting.

The property itself is beautiful but the beach area was like a sess-pool. So we swam in the pool most of the time Which we can do at home. The food was terrible almost in edible at times. And be prepared to walk although the resort is beautiful and you get to see lots of wildlife it takes about 20 minutes to walk from the lobby to the beach. There is a little golf cart that drives around every 10 minutes supposedly but often times it did not feel like it came around very often so plan on doing lots of walking. The room itself was beautiful and big for the price we paid to stay there. I would say we got what we paid for, but I will certainly never be back. We paid 550 per person all inclusive from dallas.

Overall, my stay at the Occidental was what I expected in terms of amenities, cleanliness, and service. However, one major drawback significantly impacted my experience: the constant loud music. From early in the morning, the beach area blasted salsa music at full volume. Later in the day, the speakers and activities moved to the main pool. Unfortunately, my room was directly across from the pool. Even though my balcony faced the opposite direction, the pounding music and microphones with staff shouting commands carried into my room all day. I came on this trip to relax, but the noise level made it very difficult to unwind. I wish one of the reviews I read beforehand had mentioned this, as it would have helped set expectations. For travelers who enjoy a lively party atmosphere, this hotel might be perfect. But for those seeking peace, quiet, and relaxation, it may not be the best choice.
