Our stay at Hotel Xcaret Occidental was amazing. The food was excellent, fresh, and with plenty of variety for every taste. The service was outstanding—everyone was kind, attentive, and always willing to help. What impressed us the most was their special care with gluten-free options. They went above and beyond to provide safe, delicious meals and made us feel completely at ease. Overall, everything about this hotel is top-notch: the facilities, the rooms, the cleanliness, the atmosphere, and above all, the hospitality. Definitely a place we would return to and highly recommend!

The property grounds were absolutely gorgeous! The wildlife was spectacular and the convenience to Xcaret was great. Downfall was most definitely the buffet food. Restaurant food was way better but only available as a dinner option.

Overall we loved our stay at Occidental. Every staff was very friendly and provided excellent service. Property and pools were well kept and clean. There was so much wildlife , enjoyed the nature and lagoon beach. The only thing that could be better to make us come back again would be the food and drinks. Food was not good and drinks were watered down. However. The barcelo staff was very persistent about selling product. A simple yes or no about purchasing future visits would’ve sufficed. We came on a vacation trip not a shopping trip.

The property itself is beautiful. I had an issue with customer service when I tried to change rooms because I was located on the ground level. They told me I had to wait until the next morning to come by the office to see if any other rooms were available. If they were available I would have to check out at 11:00 and wait til 3:00 to check back in. That’s so ridiculous. Instead of the hassle we just toughed it out. The customer wasn’t considered first in this situation. The food was not good at all at the buffets. This resort is a 5 star but it doesn’t meet it’s status. I was disappointed in my stay there. Most of the staff spoke little to no English and it was difficult communicating. Please implement and improve your customer service department!!!

Monkey poop

I must say I’m not usually one to write reviews but this one is necessary. A monkey pooped on our balcony and we asked them to have someone clean it and never sent anyone. So needless to say we had to look at poop on our balcony all day and night. We asked the front desk for a plastic bag for wet clothes their response was we don’t have any bags. The overall appearance of hotel was mediocre at best. The welcoming staff told us they would walk us to our room and didn’t. We got out of sight of the front desk she proceeded to talk us she doesn’t go any further and pointed to where our building was.

This was a very nice hotel, the staff were extremely friendly and the pools were very clean. The main buffet had many different options, and for dinner you have the option to make a reservation at their restaurants just keep in mind men have to wear dress pants. Our first room had cockroaches but the staff were able to accommodate us to a different building the following day and we no longer ran into that issue. For the day of my actual birthday, we came back from our excursion and a small cake was waiting for me in the room which was the nicest little detail. There is a lot of wild life which is amazing to see, monkeys, lizards, parrots, ant eaters, deer, etc!! Overall this was a very nice stay, we enjoyed our time!!!
