Mundane Moxy

We stayed two nights at the Moxy in a family room with a sofa bed. The room was okay and set up well for disabled. However, while it was quite spacious, the sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable and I ended up sleeping on the floor. The hotel offered us another room with the same setup (sofa bed the same) or a twin room. No apology or anything else. They were more concerned about being seen to be doing the right thing. The breakfast is super basic and the cooked parts (bacon, scrambled eggs, beans…) were below par. The gym was not great either - tiny and under resourced. Essentially, while Moxy is a ‘trendy’ place with the promise and price of luxury, it’s not so great and feels a bit superficial at times.

Great location for Ferry port, Friendly atmosphere. Check in was quick and efficient. Staff are very friendly and approachable. Felt very comfortable as a solo female traveller. Room was very clean and comfortable.

More trendy bar than hotel.

First impression was that the hotel lobby was a trendy bar.. there wasn’t a reception, you checked in at the bar. Parking is via an app, which didn’t initially work.. if you’re not familiar with apps, you’d struggle! There was mention of restaurants.. but there wasn’t one, you ordered food at the bar and ate on tables around the bar. Our table was near a table top football game, so you could be eating next to people playing. It felt like the hotel guests were secondary to the bar. Having said that the room was exceptional, clean, modern. However, no welcome pack, no secured WiFi, no phone in the room and no room service. Don’t think we’d stay again.

We booked a family room but when we reached the property we were been told that the bathroom door is broken and they gave us two seperate rooms.I was not comfortable making my children sleep alone in another room.So it was really inconvenient stay where we kept switching rooms.

The location is ideal for walking to the shopping centre or the Barbican. Car park on site was very useful. Hotel is very clean and rooms were serviced every day. Room was a gkkd size and bed very comfy. Staff were friendly but not very informative. Would definitely stay at Moxy again.

The Moxy Plymouth is a very clean, quiet, modern hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Fun activities available in Bar Moxy, in addition to good food, wide assortment of drinks and a very convenient 24/7 grab and go for snacks. Breakfast was worth adding. Most comfortable beds of our whole trip so far!

Hotel was very clean, friendly staff, reasonably good breakfast (no fried eggs though, only scrambled) bacon, sausages (not gf) beans and hash browns (gf 👍) gf cereal available (Schar cornflakes and muesli) no gf sliced bread though, only rolls and I do like to have a bit of toast so that wasn't an option for me unfortunately. For those without dietary issues there was a selection of bread including sourdough and also a pancake making machine! Also fruit and fruit salad. It was all help yourself. The location was good....a bit of a walk mind you! There's one very expensive restaurant right nearby (didn't go in there) but lots of dining and eating in the Barbican area which is about 12-15 minutes straight walk up Notte street, or 20 minutes walk if you go the more scenic Hoe route.
